Topic: So when do i take her to after hours? Posted: 02 February 2007 at 5:28pm |
Ella is sick im guessing she has a virus.
Shes got a temp of 37.8 degrees
Vomiting her food up shes done this twice today
Is pale
Sleepy
Grizzly
Just seems off
I have given her a cool bath and pamol but her temp hasnt shifted. Shes rather grizzly and clearly unwell but my question is when is enough? When do i take her to the after hours?

Addison is pretty much the same, today she has slept pretty much constantly, only been up for an hour at the most then asleep for at least 2-3 hours a time, temp, not eating etc... and has a cough. I was thinking of taking her to the doctors but i know they will say to just give her pamol (which i have done of course) keep her cool and watch he has some bottle and wet nappies. I know they dont really do anything till the temp gets to 40 and even then its only monitoring so sorry Jess, not sure. I think Im going to give her another day (this is the 3rd day) and if she is no better tomorrow i will go to after hours. Things like this often break on the 3rd day apparently.

personally if in doubt take them, you don't want to mess about with things like that. isn't it free for under 6yrs? even if not its worth the money for peace of mind.

The breathing funny part would have sent me to after hours. If she gets any worse or temp jumps again, maybe it's a good idea to go. You don't want to risk anything.

As soon as Olivia got that nasty tummy virus, I took her to the Dr as soon as they opened in the AM. Just in case

I would have gone with a temp like that... take it easy tonight, give her a sponge bath to cool her before bed maybe, and see how she is in the morning.

IMHO if you even have to ask then you should be there already. I learnt that the hard way when Maya was sick as a baby and I thought it was just a virus so did the fluids, cool baths etc. and when I finally took her to the docs 3 days later she had a raging chest infection and needed to go to Starship

Her temp has come right back down to 36.5 and she took food before and kept it down. My mummy instinct said she was ok to be honest the only reason i asked is coz i had seen plenty of posts on here from other mums saying if their babies temp reaches so and so then they were going to the after hours. I just wanted to be sure. Ill see how she is tomorrow but shes having another nap right now.
Thanks heaps ladies.

Am with Emma. If i doubt check it out.. have had mums come into the gps practices i have worked at and thought baby was fine.. just shivering alittle. nooo aby's temp was thru the roof and the "shivers" were the starts of febrile convulsions. - worst case, but still.
Paris gets sick mega quick - sunday night was fine. monday morning woke up could hardly breathe and by 9 am was at the docs after ventolin worked brifely then she got worse - and that was it - chest infectin - no temp nothing.. she did the same with a throat infection a while ago one minute was fine, running round all good, 2 hours later, was white shivering gritting teeth hated light and spiking temp - i freaked out thinking maybe it was the start of something very sinister - but nope - just a very very sore throat infection. Am unsure if she either has a high threshold for pain and sickness - or if things just progress terribly quickly with her. it sucks. she just sits there for the first 2 days even once treatment starts - with white clamy skin and rings under her eyes. won't even go play.

Jess, Caitlin has just had a bit of a nasty cold with similar symptoms (but with sneezing as well). Her temp came back down really quickly after I gave her Pamol and a tepid bath.
I'm with the other Mums, if you think for a second that you should be at the Emerg. Drs I would just go. They're still babies afterall and we have to be so very careful with them, anything over 37 we've been told to take Caitlin in.
Hope Ella gets better soon chick

when i rang healthline they told me to give whatever bay it was pamol and if the temp didn't go down - then go to the doctor. if the temp went down - it could wait til morning. of course I find healthline to be crappy so not entirely sure whether i would trust their advice.
