I am really interested into getting back into the workforce but don't want to put my children into care if I can help it. I am looking into opening up a retail maternity specialty shop but that is still way off if it gets off the ground.
I was wondering who works from home on here and what it is they do

I hope to have the perfect one stop maternity shop that stocks everything from clothing to CD's for labour and belly creams etc. But as I said, I am just starting to get into the research side of it now. The problem with maternity shops is that you have a very limited customer basis and it is also ever changing so i really have to do my homework to make sure it stands a good chance of getting off the ground and staying there.

I was just wondering what other Mum's do, because if this doesn't go ahead I really want to work but don't want to put my kids into care so was thinking about doing something from home but have no idea what

Im interested in ideas too. Ive gone back to my office job 12 hours a week but would really like some bonus income. Ive thought about taking on some small businesses accounts to do at home but its finding clients thats perplexing me! Advertise on the local paper and on notice boards is about all I can come up with. Ive started mosaics with the hope of selling off a few tiles here and there ......

^ ^You could always get some business card made and go around a few neighbourhoods and business areas to get your name out there?

Spudling, my guess is that your best marketting would be via word of mouth and midwives. Up here in Palmy we have a midwifery clinic where most of the independents practice from, and there are often brochures and flyers left at their rooms.

Hi there

I work from home - in 2 different roles! I have worked as a contractor for many years, and am now lucky enough to be able to work from home. I mainly write and design documentation like policies, procedures etc. Its not very exciting but easy to do from home!
I also run a Soy Candle business - which is mainly a web based enterprise at this stage (not sure if I am allowed to post the address here....?? ANyone know?)
Soy candles are fantastic for all of us lovely ladies who are expecting as they dont have any nasty chemicals in them...they burn cleanly and smell so beautiful.

Anyhow - good luck in your plans, its not always easy to stay motivated when working for yourself and from home, but remember the washing isnt going anywhere! Stay focussed, set yourself up with your own 'work space', and try to manage your time. (ie every morning between 9-10 I will work on XXX).

All the best
Sam
