Topic: Red Nose Day!! Posted: 19 February 2007 at 12:27am |
Just did this from another group, thought some on here might be interested in adding your support to a good cause. I didn't realise it had stopped over here, always used to support it in Australia.
Thanks

it was cancelled as one of the main sponsers pulled out as according to Dr Sprott a cure had been found (using one of their mattress things) and there was a bit of controversery around the whole thing. The last year they ran it they only just broke even so decided not to do it again.

I had forgotten about the song "you make the whole world smile with your little button nose.." until my friend had it playing with a slideshow of photos at her baby's funeral It was very appropriate for her though but it makes me cry whenever I think of it now!! Bring back Red Nose Day!!!

It used to be such a big thing here. I remember we used to sing the song and all have our red clown noses (primary school) and cars had those big red noses. Now you've got the song stuck in my head Kelly...

the problem with bringing it back is that there are already so many diff charity events we are supposed to support - buying bandanas, ribbons, daffodils, wrist bands - that people get charity overload... not that it isnt a good cause to support tho.

Yeah Read Nose Day was such an awesome event, I loved going to school armed with my red nose and my big button lolz. It's a shame that it was taken away. People may be suffering from charity overload but hey we all have spare change lying around collecting dust that could be donated...it doesn't matter whether its 50c or $200 being donated, it's the principle and the thought behind the donation that matters.

Looks like someone just headed to a "petition site" and started it. Anyways, Red Nose Day was August 14th, why petition it for this time of the year? (wouldn't it make a better impact in August?) Why not get endorsements from Plunket etc? I agree with a girl on another site (where it was posted), the whole thing seems a bit odd. Maybe for a good cause but why be so informal about it? SIDS is something to be taken seriously.
Could be that they just found the site and thought up a "good line" to petition and has been spamming the URL about.
I actually enjoyed Red Nose Day, I must have been what... 15? 16? How long ago was 1994 again? LOL
I wont be endorsing the petition, sorry kez!

I used to collect telecom phonecards (that you use in the card machines) and I remember I had a mint edition of red nose day babies.. probably still have it around here somewhere, wonder if it's worth anything now!
