hey all,

Jaxon is being christened the day after our wedding. That way everyone will be here. I was wondering any of you out there that have godparents for their children, how many do you have???

Jaxon is going to have 6 and the vicar hasnt said that is too much. I dont want to have to tell some o them theya re no longer going to be godparents so hoping all will be good.

He is getting christened in Anglican church.

We only chose two. But they will be the gaurdians of all our kids if something happens to the both of us as well.

We had the complication however that they are Muslim ect ect. But it worked out.

Have a nice time.

I haven't yet had a Christening (partly because I don't think I ever will.. I'm not the most religious of sorts) but I will have a naming ceremony at some point and have two "God"parents for Hannah

I thought the purpose of godparenting was to be guardians if you and their dad die - what am I missing here?

My girls have two each, Maya has my best friend and my brother and the gremlins have my sister and brother and Willie's sister and brother (one of each )

In the true religious sense a "Godparent" is someone who pledges to ensure the child is brought up in the 'ways of the faith', but in more recent times Godparents are seen more as guardians or caretakers.

And to answer your question Kell, my cousin has one godmother and 7 godfathers...

My son has god parents but that it more so they can look out for him and see that he has someone to turn to (while we are alive) if in the event that both of us die then he will either go to my mum or DH parents.
Bay has 1 godmother (my cousin) and 1 godfather (my DH best friend that he grew up with and is still really close to).

We have 1 Godfather and 1 Godmother, even though Mya isnt/wont be christened. They also live in different cities so wouldnt be guardians if something happened to us. We chose to have godparents as a way to honour 2 people that have always been extremly close to me, and they LOVE having Mya to dote on and view it has an important role in her life

Xanda was not christened but we had a naming ceremony, and tree planting with the placenta,. He has 6 guardians, and with his placenta we buried something from each of them that meant something to them, or a letter that they wrote. That way they are all also connected with him spiritually.

Brenna has got 2 'guardians' rather than god parents (her aunty & uncle). It's more just incase something happens to us...

god parents are not legal guardians tho - you still need to assign a testamentary guardian under your will...and can chose a god parent or anyone else...

I was christened at 4, only cause my Gma was "dying" (she ended up passing last year!!!! much to my mums annoyance over having to christen us!!!) - we had one god father and one god mother...and the god mother takes her role seriously....despite living overseas and the god father is useless and havent seen him for over 20 years!!!!

Also at a philippino wedding i was a "godmother" (one of 13 i think) for the bride in a huge catholic ceremony!!!

Kat - as far as Godparents are concerned... yeah what Emma said. So I see Han's Godparents as her 'Spiritual Guides' to whatever spirituality is. And people that she can talk to when she doesn't want to talk to me. Gem is really Han's "Fairy GodMother" which just means she is 'good time Gemma' with my little monkey. Han gets presents every time we see her... and sometimes I do too! I've tried to tell her to stop but she won't listen

We have one of each for Charlotte- my best friend and DHs best friend. If anything happened to both of us she would go to my Mum so we think of them more of an extra set of adult who are there for her if she needs them.

Jake has four and so does Taine. The boys however will BOTH go to Jake's married godparents should anything happen to us.

Hannah's Godfather is my brother... my Godfather is my uncle... not unusual in my family. My sister's is our other uncle.

And yeah - I say you can use the same Godparent. I don't think there are "rules" and if there are, they are made to be broken

My son has my sister only. My daughter has DH's best friend, my best friend and then a couple whom we are very close too. We had a naming ceremony for both kids and they were "godparents" who would help guide the kids through life and be their close friends should they ever need their help...

Should anything happen to us though, I think both kids and bump would either go to my sister or my parents...
