Topic: Have a cold and breastfeeding Posted: 31 March 2007 at 4:00pm |
Hi all
I have a cold at the mo - miserable - but was wondering if having a cold would affect my breast milk supply???? It seems as though it has slown down over the last couple of days (since I got my cold) and Noah seems to be having trouble getting full . Would a cold do that?
Thanks

i have a cold at the mo and so does jordis, and i think that combination has affected my supply. she wont feed as long and i am run down too. i have been expressing after each feed that i can, and am starting to see an improvement.
its hard because you are probably having a combination of that and a growth spurt, so noah will be more hungry for a day or to in an effort to get supply up.

expressing is a good idea if you find your milk supply dropping while you're sick, but yep like the others have said, because you might not be eating as well or just be plain tired as heck, it will affect it. The nice thing is, all your antibodies you are making to fight your cold.. will be passed on to baby as well, so hopefully he won't get it, or not as bad anyway.

It will effect it a bit. Just feed him more often. He should get that supply up really soon for you again. Dont try and supplement feed. He will get what he needs from you just feed him more often and let him stay on for as long as he wants.
I know not really what you want to do when feeling sick at all.

He sounds awful poor thing. It sucks not being able to do much for them when they are so small.
