I'm wondering if something is wrong with me...

I came back from my bloods with low iron so was told to take iron pills twice a day, been doing that for the past week and started to feel a little less tired but the past 2 nights have been really weird..

Come 5:30pmish I feel as though its 5:30am and I haven't been to bed yet. It feels like the most horrid tiredness I've ever experienced. Can't be lack of food or water because I drink all day and eat roughly every 2 hrs. I'm getting no less sleep than normal so it can't be that either.

During the day I sometimes feel a little dizzy..

My vision has been shocking for the past few months, though who knows if this is related..

I'm probably going to take tomorrow off as a sick day and ring the mw for a med cert to keep work happy but also cause I'm kinda worried cause I just don't feel right..

Am I like stressing over nothing?

Stacey - how has your blood pressure been? Ask your MW about the signs & Symptom of pre-esclima (?sp) I so hope its nothing serious but the vision thing i sounds like something to be worried about. Take care chick & hope its all about nothing...

My BP has always been really good, last time was a little lower than what I normally have but it was still normal. I thought about pre-eclapsia (however its spelt) but I have no swelling at all. I did have a little over the real heated summer but it's gone now that the heat isn't as bad as it was for a while there.

Hi Stacey,
I had iron issues during my pregnancies too. The iron pills can knock you around a little - you might want to talk to your midwife about a different brand and try something a little easier on your system. Also ask her about your B12 levels...
In terms of eyesight, yep, it's another thing on the whacky list of body parts effected by pregnancy. Most optometrists won't test your eyesight while you are pregnant because your eyes change shape! The dizziness usually peaks during your second trimester and should ease up in a few weeks - take your time standing up and be nice to yourself on stairs or when you are walking about the place.
If in doubt, always talk to your midwife - she's there for you and available for all of your questions and concerns (that's what she's paid for).

I got sent for a blood test at about 30 weeks to test for pre-eclampsia. I didn't have any signs of it when I had my 28 week bloods, but my midwife was concerned with my BP. The only symptoms I had for it was high blood pressure, and slight nausea during the day.

Dizziness, swelling in the hands and face, blurry vision and high blood pressure are all signs.

Thankfully my bloods came back ok, but my BP is still being carefully watched each time I see my MW.

I hope you feel better soon Stacey!

I thought of B12 (since I'm a vege) so I've taken a pill of it tonight (I have tons here and go through stages of taking them) so will see if that helps even in the slightest (it always does if thats my problem)

Stacey it may be a whole host of things so it would be good to talk with your mw about it. Things that come to mind for me are growth spurt (trouble with your eyes could just be exhaustion-related), BP (low?), some reaction to the iron tablets.

Hi Stacey, sounds awful, you poor thing. Have they checked you for diabetes yet? BLurred vision can be a sign of that. With regards to seeing an optometrist. There is no harm going to make sure everything is ok with your eyes and that the blurry vision is simply that they are wanting a different prescription. you want to make sure there is no medical reason for the blur and your optometrist should be able to let you know about that.

Any optometrists will test you pregnant. They just may recommend not changing your glasses.

Hope that helps. But talk to your MW

I don't think it's a reaction to the iron tablets. I've been on and off various iron supplements all my life, I've had this type before many times and it's never effected me. However I am pregnant and my body enjoys being mean to me it seems!

I'm waiting until after 9 until I ring my mw to ask her what she thinks.

With my eyes it's way worse at night so exhaustion related is quite a possibility.

Hey Stacey - now I see why you were asking me about the B12! Vit B12 and Folate can also cause anaemia, so I would get your mw to test you for them too (my doc does everytime I have bloods done because of my b12 problem). Amaemia can cause the extreme tiredness and low blood pressure which then causes the dizziness. My eyes also went blurry when I was anaemic with B12 deficiency (not sure if its just the extreme tiredness or neurological damage? but I have 20/20 vision and they are back to normal, so I think it was from the tiredness). I felt very weird and so tired I could (and did!) cry!!

Being a vege and pg - you are highly likely to be low in Vit b12 .. as I said in the june thread, my levels were great pre-pg and now I'm on empty! If you are low get the injections if you can - they're a really high dose so you'll feel better in a few weeks.

Let us know what the mw says.

Hope that you are3 fellig a bit better and that there is nothing the matter. Talking to your midwife sounds like a good plan at least then if there is something going on she can look into and get you and baby the help you need.

I hope you're feeling better too, and thatyour midwife can reassure you. It may be a combination of low iron and low BP making you feel more tired. I had low BP in both my pregnancies and with Maya I actually fainted twice (it was also January tho so really hot).

Righto, B12 has helped a little this morning so I'm gonna guess it's that. I've tried the MW but she's got someone in labour I believe..

I went to the chemist before to grab some more B12 and man they suck, I'm never going there again so I went to my trusty old health shop and got some really good B12 pills. Yay! And I just have to suck on them rather than swallowing which is good and they taste yummy. And I'm gonna start taking spiralina again cause that's a good pick me up so will know later on tonight if it's gonna have any effect (it always works really fast on me)

It's still nice to have the day off!

Aw, hope today was a better one for you, Stacey.  If it's reassuring - I had the dizziness and poor vision when I was pregnant and it was just one of the delights of pregnancy, nothing was 'wrong' as such.  Hope you got hold of your midwife sometime though.

Did you manage to get hold of your midwife? Hope you are feeling better & that it was the B12 as you suspected.

Yup and she's not worried. Also was nosey with the midwife who takes our antenatal classes about my vision (to get a 2nd opinion) and she said that many girls experience it so I'm not worried. I'm pretty sure it is B12 cause each day I'm feeling a bit better which is cause I've been good and taking them so it must be kicking in.
