Just so a different thread in the General doesn't go completely off the topic. How long after giving birth (VB) should you wait to have a smear? I was due to have one last year in September, but I was pregnant and was told to hold off till after I had Josh. Now i've had him I think I should have it (i've had issues there before) soon. I forgot to ask at the dr last week when Josh had his imm's.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

I waited 6 months as I was due when pregnant with DD. Maybe ring the Drs and see what they say- or even healthline?

As I was over due when I was pregnant, my MW wanted to do it, but I had 2 threaten micarriages so didn't. I had a C-section and had my 1st smear about 4 months later. My Gp was unhappy I had left it so long...woops

My Dr did one at my 6 week check 'just to get it out of the way'. She did say though that often they get an abnormal result after you've had a baby so maybe you're better waiting till 6 months PP?

Depending on the circumstances, usually we recall woman between 3-6mths after birth (if they are due or were due when pg).  If they have had other issues and abnormal smears then the doctor may request an earlier appt.

Becks I was told to get it done at baby's 3m check, or when "relations" felt comfortable again (I had stitches).

Liz apparently they used to do smears routinely with pg but now they don't, mostly because not enough women are getting pg, or pg as many times, so it misses a lot of people/check-ups.

Amy, I thought smears and mc's weren't related? :S

My gynae did one 8 weeks after birth. Was suppose to go for a 6 week checkup but she was stuck overseas. Planes got delayed. Normally she does one at 6 weeks and then once a year.

Thanks for reminding me. need to go get one done.

I got a letter today from the nurses telling me I need to have it done soonish. I'll wait till Josh has his 3 month jabs and have it done before his jabs so I can feed him after his jabs.

I was told to wait 6 months PP before having a smear.  I got sent the reminders through my pregnancy and now but I think that's something to do with being on the national register, rather than my GP saying I need one now.
