Topic: BIG FAT whinge Posted: 17 April 2007 at 3:43pm |
OK, pity party here for me... and some will be a bit appalled at this, but ah well.
As most of you know, I am a single mama and have only spend one night away from my darling demon child over the last 2 and (almost) a half years. (Not entirely unusual, I'm sure)
Well, Hannah was meant to be flying with my little brother back to Rotorua to stay with my Mum for a week. I was quite worried at how much I'd miss her or if she'd be OK... though that was short lived. I started really looking forward to it and Hannah was asking every day when she was going on the plane to see Jen-jen and Mark.
Anyway, got to the AirNZ counter this afternoon and the lady kindly informed me that a 14 year old could not accompany a 2 year old, he had to be at least 15. ARGHHHHHHHHHH. Mum said she looked everywhere through the terms and conditions and couldn't find anything.
So I saw off my brother and took Hannah home... who was distraught. She kept saying "Hannah on plane" and "No mummy take me" (which is toddler speak for "F'off Mum, I'm meant to be outta here") So plainly upset that she couldn't go.
The stupid thing is that I left all my school work to this week thinking that I'd have a whole lotta uninterrupted time to do it... and time to spend with Tobin without demon. Now no.

That really, really sucks. Send major complaint letters to them, they so should have made it clear either when you bought the ticket or on the website. Grrrr.

That does really suck Nikki
When we were younger, my dad used to lie to the airline so that I could accompany my younger brother on the plane

Yeah, sucks that it didn't come up on the website, but I can see how an automated process like that would slip through the system.
On the interislander and bluebridge website for the ferry it won't let you book a child (or two children) without an adult or student accompanying them. So a little bit grrr but a little bit our fault for not calling up to check either.
The extra stupid thing is that my mum was a travel agent for about 15 years!!! She should have known!!! (But she said something about the rules changing all the time and she assumed when it wasn't obvious about accompanied minors etc then it would be alright)
Right... enough whinging. Must suss out other ways to get Han to Rotorua... or at least plan something special to do when she is asleep!

Unaccompanied minors have to be older than 5 years
And Leish - I'd have lied too if I'd known it was 15!! haha My brother is way competent enough to look after Hannah on an hour long flight.

sucky suck. Poor Hannah she would be so disappointed and not really knowing why she didn't go.
And Nikki - stink. I know how important time on your own is especially being a solo parent (been there done that with first)
Hopefully you can get your money back (not that it was about that but it helps) and maybe a friend can look after Hannah while you study for a bit of peace.

Gee, if we were in Wellington I'd take her for at least overnight! How frustrating!
Still, at least you won't miss her now (what a bummer )

that does really suck Nikki. I think i would have palmed her off to an adult flying. I mean told them the story and said that bro would look after her.
Hope some arrangements can be made for miss Hannah so you can have a bit of a break.

Argh Nikki! That is terrible! I know how nice it is to sometimes have a break from the demon kids! And I can imagine Hannah was not impressed about her plans falling thru?! SO hard to explain something like that to a two year old! That really does suck!

Mum came and picked her up! Yaaaaay! She is AWESOME
Drove all the way from Rotorua after dinner last night and then left this morning to travel back to Rotorua when I went to work.
She is so the best ever. Feel much better now
