for those of you that have parents that live overseas. How do you cope???

My mum has just come back from Brisbane (on holiday) and now my parents are moving back over there . They are moving to the Sunshine Coast and I don't know how I am going to cope. I never had a good relationship with my mum while I was a child and since moving out of home we have had a great relationship, more so after having Andrew and Josh. Everyone is saying that we will follow them over there (truth be told yes we probably will but not in the next year or so) soon after they move. So how do you cope and how do your chidlren cope with grandparents overseas, as I know Andrew will be quite upset not being able to go and see nana when he wants to.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

My mum lives in Australia (Melbourne). I have been here for nearly 8 years. In that time I have been over to visit coming up on 8 times. 2 of these have been with Ethan. She has visited me ONCE and that was when he was 2 weeks old...

It is hard, but I guess we are fortunate. We use the computer to keep in touch. Skype is an excellent program that is free. We use our webcams a lot and regularly have "phone" calls over the net using the webcam. Ethan thinks that it is really cool because it is like he is on telly. He knows who his Nona is (my mum). We also have a family website that my brother hosts. There are HEAPS of pics on it and it is another way of sharing our lives.

Like yourself, I never really had a great relationship with my mother. After Ethan was born, the relationship has started to heal. I still find it really difficult that she is over there and I am here...My only sister and younger brother are there as well..

I guess it is just accepting that they are going and finding ways of keeping in touch.

Think of the bright side.....You will never have to pay for Holiday accomodation on the Sunshine Coast!!!!

My parents and my sister all moved to aussie about 2 months ago. To tell you the truth i'm really missing them
I've always had quite a good relationship with my parents and my sister (apart from the childish sibling fights)
My parents have just started new jobs so just waiting for them to get settled and then they are paying for us to go over to visit.
Skype is great!!! James & I talk to them on skype almost daily.

It sucks It was our choice to move away but I hate that Charlotte and this one coming won't have that close relationship with their grandparents over the next few years until we come back. I talk to Mum on the phone every day- we came back for a visit last month and shes coming over here in June. We plan on coming back for a visit once a year but it isn't the same (especially since its a 29 hour flight!).

As much as I love being over here and think its one of the best things we've ever done, this is the one thing that makes it really hard

I talk to Charlotte about her Grammy and Poppa all the time, she talks to them on the phone and we look at photos. She has pictures of them up in her room and mentions them all the time- often drawing them pictures etc.

I havent lived near my parents for nearly 3yrs and hate it esp when I ahd Haleigh and even more so now we are having number 2, they moved to Point Cook in Melbourne in Jan, so DF and I made the decision ages ago to move over so in August I will be close by my parents again, then once my sister has her baby they will be going over to so my family will be there and nice and close
I always envied people who had their mums there to help out after the birht of their baby/ies or had them to help give them a break, as my MIL used to live 10mins form us and never once helped out after haleigh was born just criticised so I missed my parents even more so then.

Well we are the ones that moved away and that with their only grandchild.

My father learned how to use the pc. But it blew up so we call him every two weeks as he only have a cellphone on the farm.

We chat on Skype to Grants parents once a week at least and sent sms's. His brother and sister might come out to us in December and they will come early next year.

My parents are coming next year for christmas.

We cope okay. I miss my pets more than the family.
