Topic: natural remedies to use in childbirth Posted: 23 April 2007 at 8:14am |
Am thinking of natural ways to deal with the pain of childbirth & stuff to help the establishment of labour ie caulophyllum.
Any ideas, suggestions or if you have used any natural products etc i would love for you to share

This wasn't while I was in labour but after the birth I used arnica to help with the bruising & healing.

I have heard that taking raspberry leaf tea helps with making the birth easier during labour. A friend swears by it. I am going to go to my local health food store this week so I will post again when I have some more info.

I took EPO to help "ready" my cervix, and Raseberry Leaf Tea to help with my uterus (it tones it up). I used water being labour.

Raspberry Leaf Tea works well. Any of the essential oils that bring on menstruation will also bring on labour.

I have tried the Raspberry leaf tea, but its yuck!! Maybe capsules?
Trying EPO and have got the NaturoPharm Birth Aid, which is a mixture of *stuff* and has the Arnica in it.
I thinking more along the lines of Blue Cohosh or Caulophyllum. Has anyone heard or tried either?

I've been taking 5-W which is a herbal mixture of all the good things to get everything ready including red raspberry leaves, black cohosh root etc. There are a few different suppliments on the market which I think are all pretty much the same. I also drink a few cups of Red Raspberry tea each day too, not a big fan of it, but have gotten used to it a bit more.
Also I have been doing a lot of research into using aromatherapy in labour and have two blends all made up and ready to go. First one for the early stages of labour is Lavender, clary sage and bergamot. The blend will help keep you calm and get your contractions established, and then once in active labour I will be using a blend of Sandalwood and Lavender. Sandalwood is a very strengthing oil and will give you courage (yay) and lavender is the balancer and calming oil.
Essenital oils can be dangerous if not used correctly so I would recommend you have a chat to your MW and/or an aromatherapist before you go out and spend millions on buying them all

i had a homeopathic birth kit made up for me, you can buy them ready made with the basics in
It lists Caulophyllum as useful to help if contractions are not effective or if the cervix is not dilating. the literature goes on to say that although this is commonly used other remedies may be indicated. I never had this in my birth kit. From what I can understand Caulophyllum is the homeopathic version of Blue Cohosh and is pereferred as Blue Cohosh can bring on too strong contractions
Also chamomilla to help in transition.
Rescue remedy was and is still something I use everyday. It was great during labour, I just made a dilution up in my water bottle and chugged it throughout, helped my husband out as well
Arnica was great to take to assist healing and bruising, I would have taken this prior to labour but Fay didn't give me chance to do this arriving 5 weeks early
