    Posted: 14 May 2007 at 6:34pm
Well, yesterday was my first ever mothers day and I feel a bit sad about the whole thing.

To start with, I phoned my mum in the morning to say "Happy Mothers Day" and she told me that all the family were getting together for lunch (no-one had told me). They do live 2 hours away, but it's still not that far for a day trip and I felt really stink to have not been told about it.

I had told hubby I didn't want a pressie (cause I'd rather spend time together), but I didn't even get a card!!! I said I wanted to go for a family walk, but we never ended up going cause we had to wait at home for his parents who were coming out for a visit at 12 and didn't turn up until 4!

Then...my MIL ignored me (didn't say happy mothers day or anything) and proceded to give DH a pressie(for "mothers day")!!!It wasn't anything major, but STILL it's just the fact that she gave it to him on Mothers Day!

I had friends etc phone to say HMD (which was nice) but they all asked me what I got and when I said nothing, they were like "Oh? Not even a card?". Anyway...I know that none of this really matters, but I still feel like I was not appreciated at all or recognised for being a 'mum'

Sorry for the novel, just had to get this off my chest

It's silly cause the sensible side of me tells me that it doesn't really matter, but then the hormonal side of me just wants to have a good old cry about it...I think I need a good laugh and a few wines

Maybe you could talk with your DH about it and have a family walk this coming weekend? That gift was a bit off, but I think telling DH that you didn't want a pressie (but secretly hoping fir a card) might have just got him confused.

I initiated a convo last week about what shall we do for MD/FD and wanted to know what DH expected. I'm not entirely clear on what he wants yet actually, but basically for me I wanted to have a "feel special" day but didn't care for pressies either. My biggest thing was that I didn't want to spend my MD looking after his mum and my mum! So when I sent mum her bday card two weeks ago I wrote PS HMD on it and then on MD didn't contact M or MIL at all! I asked DH to explain the meaning of the day to the kids (sounds so much better that way) and then he initiated making pikelets for breakfast Mind you, it's my 4th MD

I'm sorry your day didn't go the way you wanted it to.
I like what Bee said though, it is so true. Our children do show us how much they appreciate it with their cute smiles, big hugs etc etc. That is what being a mother is really about

I made a similar mistake of teeling hubby i didn't need a birthday present and the silly man took me at my word - what he should've realised is that i wanted him to WANT to buy me a present - and I threw a fit. NOW I realise that I have to give him strict instructions exactly what I want - for everything. This year i gave him a list of things to chose from to get me.

BTW my first mother's day DH FORGOT!!!!! and worked overtime..and took three days to figure out why I wasn't talking to him. men don't seem to understand the sentimentality of days like this.

Oh Anna, I feel for you! If it's any consolation I had a stink mothers day too, so we can commiserate together.
Isn't it silly? I thought mothers day wouldn't be such a big deal to me, but I didn't want it to be a bad day!

OH anna i hear ya!!!! i had a very stink mothers day too!! i had a crap night sleep the night before so was tired anyway but DH made things worse cos when i asked him if he would make me a cake like he was making his mum he said "WHY!? your not my mum" so i said "yeah but you need to make an effort for Bay" he didnt even get Bay to say happy mothers day!! and he even had the nerve to ask me to make him breakfast when i got up! then he decided that he would go down the coast (a good 3 hoursish away!) to fish with my BIL which made me wild!! and i screamed my butt off at him so he stayed home and made me a cake but still the damage was done!!
Oh and like you i wanted to go for a family walk and he couldnt 'be bothered'!! so we never went!

Big I know how you feel.
The more I think about my day the more I feel ripped off.

DP got to sleep in (which is the 1 thing I want since my DS was born...still waiting)
He wrote in the card but gave it to me after we had been to HIS mothers house! (which I picked up when we were looking for his own mum)

I am so looking forward to Fathers day for a bit of pay back!

Anna! And Happy Mothers Day!!! Although I did get a nice card from Ashleigh and surprisingly one from DH aswell, I had specifically asked for a nice sleep in but was summons at 7.30 as Ashleigh was being a minx and refused to open her mouth for DH when he was giving her her cereal    So mum to the rescue of course. The rest of the day wasn't anything too special either - we went to Paeroa for lunch with DH's family but Ash had the beginnings of a cold and wasn't very happy

Anyway, we all know you're a great mum and if Brenna could talk, I'm sure she would have told you aswell! i can't wait until Ashleigh is old enough and I'll get all those handmade cards and flowers picked out of the garden
