Hi

I have had a few people ask me whether I am going to have a baby shower or not? Has anyone else had them? What did you do? How far into pg did you have it?

Also - and I know this sounds awful, but if people want to buy you gifts - do you have a list or do you just let people get whatever they want?

Would love to hear your experiences, as I am not sure that I want one or not!

I had my shower 2 weekends ago at 36 weeks. it was a good time for me as I am really well and mobile with my pregnancy, plus I had finsihed work.

Usually your shower is hosted by someone o behalf of you, like a best friend. Mine organised my shoer but couldn't come as she was sent overseas on business! So I took over the running of the games and stuff, but it was such a cool time it didn't matter.

With presents, if you have specific things then you give a list to the host to tell people what to get generally. I know that you can do a list like for a wedding at places, but that struck me as somewhat excessive! (Sorry if that offends anyone, just my personal opinion!) I didn't bother in the end as I had basics so people got me a lovely range of gifts that I probably wouldn't have bought for bubs.

I just had such a lovely time with my shower. We played a few games, nothing too full on, just easy to manage fun things. We had some yummy food and just talked a lot of nonsense. Like a big fun girly afternoon! PLus I have some cute pics of all of us to show baby when she is grown up how we all got together to celebrate her impending arrival.

Hi a baby shower is usually put on for you by a mum or close friend, about 4-6 weeks before baby is due. Some people do gift registers at the likes of Baby Factory (I don't know who else does them) but IMO they are unnecessary as most people buy very helpful things for baby shower gifts. You will likely get a couple of outfits, blankets (especially if you have a winter baby), feeding spoons or similar, and packets of nappies. For a recent baby shower I attended the mum and dad to be wanted to buy some furniture so a note was put on the invite, "they are looking to buy some big ticket items from Baby City so vouchers are a good gift choice" or something like that.

Usually the host will put on some kind of nibbles - afternoon tea or supper - and a couple of games. Easy sitting down games like "remember what's on the tray" and "name the baby photo" etc. There are heaps of baby shower games on the internet and even on this site.

IMO baby showers are great, you usually don't get one for 2nd or subsequent children so lap it up and enjoy yourself! A lot of people love to help out by buying gifts for you and baby (usually for bab ) and it's a fun social event. Packs of nappies are probably one of the most common gifts and even they go a long way in terms of cost-saving.

I'm having my baby shower this weekend, and I'll be 36 weeks. My sister has organised the whole thing. I did give her a list of things I hadn't got yet, but whether she let people know that I don't know. She has just organised an afternoon tea for Saturday with some games thrown in for a bit of fun. But as I've never been to a baby shower before, its all new to me too! Perhaps check out the net for baby shower games, etc...?
