Topic: Little people. lolol random whinge Posted: 16 June 2007 at 8:13pm |
Ok, so, it's a random post, about nothing and we know Mike's genes are probably the culprit here but come on....
we took Ayja for her 2 yr old check with plunket. and ta-da!!!.. she is the grand total of... 10 kilos, in a year she has put on 1 kilogram. Just 1! The plunket nurse wasn't worried she said as the growth was steady, but i don't think she was terribly happy with the progress either.
i don't feel bad about it mostly as her growth is "steady", but just feel *argh* about how little she is... i know there are far worse problems i could complain about.. but she is only just growing out of her winter pants that i got her ages ago - they are size 0. she was little-ish when she was born.
I don't mind the littlness.. don't get me wrong, it's very cute but there are plenty of other "little" kids that weigh more, he he, she really just must be a true lightweight.
I guess when your little person isn't "growing" quite as fast as you'd like you just get a bit miffed lol. I should know well enough by now that "blah blah kids grow at their own pace, blah blah" etc.. but am just feeling a bit Jaded.. especially since she eats like a fricken horse.. today she ate 3 and a half full pieces of toast for brekkie. an hour later we went to see Shrek 3 (which is good, but kinda dark and scary for little kids this time i think) and she downed a full drink bottle of drink a small popcorn, half a punnet of lollies (while sitting on daddies knee) then came over to sit on my knee so she could scrounge off paris. this is before the previews even came on might i add..
I do put a limit on their eating, i don't let them eat silly proportions all the time, and no they don't eat constantly. but am amazed such a little person puts away such a large meal. when she has a bath after dinner, you take off her top and her tummy is sooo large she puts santa claus to shame.
ok, random whinge over.
please tell me you guys out there have kids the same. I luv her, shes so little and cute but i think she'll get to the point where she gets a bit grumpy with being so little... especially now that her 1 yr old cousin is the same height as she is. I also worry with her going to the over-twos section.. i know her sis will look out for her but she is littler than the average 2 yr old and some of their nearly 5 yr olds are so so big and rush about. Can't protect her from everything but feel she will have a tendency to get knocked about.
why oh why is she so little?!

Jacob has only just given up the ghost on his size 0's and into size one pants. I do have some size 2's he can get into but it depends on the brand. He weighs just over 11.5kg, and has slowed down heaps, as he was a real bhudda bubba. Gone from being top of growth chart to just under middle line.
He does have that huge looking starving child tummy at bath time, too!!!He eats alot! Charlotte also is ttiiiiiiiiny, she is just on 6 kg (clothed) and still fits into some of her newborn clothes, just gone into 000's in last fortnight. Plunket told me to say to anyone who feels it's their place to comment on how tiny she is to say, "I know, isn't it nice". People are sooo mean, aye?

Okay, my kids are heavy weights but I babysit occasionally, and the little girl i broke is two months older than Taine and honestly, when she was over, ate more than all four kids combined. man, can she put the food away!!!!! BUT is about the same height as Taine and weighs 8kg, compared to his 11kg. genes i guess!
although I can't say I feel the same way as you (cause my kids are huge), I can see where you are comiong from~

I guess the good thing is she'll love it when she's a teenager and all her friends have big muffin bulges over thier jeans...?
But seriously it must be hard on her and you. As long as she is healthy it's all good I have the other extreme, people always think Joey is much older than he is as he is "so big" people always expect more of him as they think he is older.

he he, i think people get a bit of a fright when they see little miss ayja and she opens her mouth and speaks like a big girl sometimes. lol. especially now her language has really taken off.
I think the thing i worry about is that she'll get teased when she's a teenager or be a bit of a target if she truely takes after mike. He was called "anna" ant highschool... ie short for anorexia. (hence why we couldn't call our kids that name even though i liked it, lol.. ayja's doll is called anna instead). You know how some girls can be nasty and make up rumours about eating disorders etc when someone is thin.

OMG My 'baby' girl at her 9 month Plunket visit (2 months ago now!) was 11.1kgs!!!!! Proof that kids vary GREATLY!
As long as you know she's healthy, that's all that matters. And worry about nasty girls making up rumours when that particular time comes

At Josiah's 2yr Plunket check (coincidentally, on his second birthday!) he weighed 10.2kg and was 82cm tall. Xavier had his 6mth check the same day, and was 8.1kg and 71cm tall. I did an approximate weigh at the doctors about 3 weeks ago... Josiah was around 10.5kg and Xavier was around 9kg. We think there's about 7cm between them in height at the moment and Xavier has definitely just had a growth spurt (he's so heavy to carry!) so he's probably heavier again.
I'm really worried that Josiah is going to be treated as younger than he is, and that Xavier is going to be expected to be older than he really is. Josiah has been on the 3% lines for the Plunket age vs length and age vs weight charts his whole life so his growth and development haven't been worrying me until now. Xavier is crawling and pulling himself up on furniture, and trying to walk! What worries me is that people will see him and treat him like he's older than 7mths... in fact, that people will see the two boys and treat them like twins!

Janine I wouldn't worry about teasing. Kids at school tease for anything - big, small, red, blonde . I guess all we can do as patents is equip them with comebacks like Annie suggested, and keep their self esteem at home intact.

Janine, all I have to say is that from the stories you tell about Ayja I can tell she has absolutely no shortage of personality (read: cheekiness ) so she'll be more than able to hold her own against the "big kids"
But I know how ya feel... I had the opposite problem, plunket nurse making comments about Han being too big... and I felt terribly about that! You can't win being a parent can ya?

Believe it or not, I used to get called Annie Anna at high school, as I was tiny tiny tiny (my dad was a stick) to the point where all the roumers made the school get the councellers in and parnets at school etc, but when they saw my dad, they were sweet with it in the end. Now look at me, I'm obese!!!
Its not so bad the kids, as kids can be so cruel with their brand of brutal honesty/follow the leader type behaviour (especially girls), but its the grown ups that should know better that really get me. I'm sure Ayja Baby will have no problems sticking up for herself.

That sux!! I was called that too! "Anna anorexic" (was a lot thinner at high school - I ate heaps but just stayed really thin). Kids can be so nasty and teasing is so damaging

Dont worry too much. If she is really active and like you say eating really well I wont worry at all. I had a huge fit with my first Plunket visit and them telling me my girl is underweight. Next time I went was with another nurse and she only picked up slightly in 3 months but she was happy again.
You the mommy and you know your kid the best. And I feel it is healthier for them to eat real food instead of all the crap that kids get fed these days.
And McKayla is still considered really small although she is like really tall and at home she weighs 9.6 at the moment. And dont think she will weigh much more at 2 years anyway.
