Yep, it'll get colder. July and August are much colder than June. As for stocking up....wait till Briscoes has a sale (they hardly ever do.....only about 52 weekends a year!!!!)

I remeber when we moved here thinking that it was so lucky that Briscoes had a sale the week we needed to stock up on household things.
Try Arbuckles and I think you may have just missed a Farmers sale on linen, sorry Manchester, they usually have good specials.
I find that though New Zealand is not colder than UK, not in wellington anyway, I feel it more here. I never wore thermals before we move here

It absolutely gets colder. I haven't yet been outside in daytime with a coat or scarf on, although next time we go for a walk I'll be taking my gloves. Early-mid August is the peak of the cold weather and snow fields.

best thing is that you DO get used to it. I remember when I first moved to Chch from auckland I was wearing thermals, shirt, jumper, jacket, coat etc. in winter.....now I just have a t-shirt or top with a warm jacket for going outside.....I'm getting tough!

SOrry to tell you, but some people never get used to the cold. I've lived in Chch pretty much all of my life, and I never get used to the horrible winters. And they're getting worse every year I reckon (other than 1992, that was bad).

Cold? It hasn't got cold yet in Auckland. This is incredibly mild. Actually, the temperature is starting to drop now - I had the electric blanket on last night and we have turned the heater on for hte first time tonight.
Layers for warmth. Passive heating where possible (open curtains early and close as the sun leaves that side of the house to trap heat in). If not allergic, then looking at some sort of feather duvet is a grat idea. Woollen underlays under the bottom sheet also help with maintaining warmth.

I am well used to the cold and then some, but that doesn't mean I have to like it! Back home the coldest winter I can remember averaged -25 degrees celsius. Might look at getting Erin a few thermal tops though.

Farmers is having a red dot sale so there might be some good discounts on some warm snuggly blankets.

If you are in Auckland - then the Briscoes 'Outlet' shop in St Lukes often has good prices on winter weight duvets and warm blankets.
Our house is brick and hold the heat well if there has been sunshine, but if not its damn cold. We basically heat the lounge and the bedroom and dash between those rooms!!

Depends on your home too. We've had the heater on once this year at DH's insistence, I didn't think it was that bad! But Mummy_Becks lives near us in an older home and has had her fire on afew times already.

Um my fire is on 24/7 it seems like and my electric blanket is on as well. My house is very old (built in 1929) so it quite drafty (even after we batted it and put underfloor in). I'm also a wimp when it comes to the cold (coming from Brisbane) so I feel it very easy so this is cold for me and I know it gets worse.

our upstairs stays quite warm as all glass BUT we already have heater on and in middle of winter we tend to have two duvets on us....yep it is def gonna get colder!!! but just think - auckland is usually a lot warmer than the rest of the country (mainly!)
at least you are in a relatively warm part of NZ....but i suggest you start layering now!

Well.....this morning in Dunedin its a grand -6 degrees.....brrrrrr..... We have a feather and down Duvet on our bed and a woollen underlay, and apart from the sheets thats all. It keeps us toasty and warm, feather/down duvets are a wee bit more pricy, but are worth their weight in gold! I did see woollen blankets the other day at the warehouse for not a bad price though!
