I have both hemp & microfleece on my list of things to buy. I have heard that you have to wash the hemp ones a few times before they are truly absorbant...but what about microfleece or other types? Do you need to wash these before using them? And do you use hot or cold water for this?

Do you mean microfibre? If you are talking inserts, then it will be microfibre (microfleece isnt absorbant). I have always used new microfibre inserts without washing and they have been fine.
