Topic: why am I so Honest... Posted: 30 June 2007 at 10:50am |
I know its usually a good trait, but this time I just can't afford to be.
The other day I was in a carpark, and i scraped the side of someones car, it wasn't too bad but was noticable. The carpark was empty, honestly not a person in sight, so I could have just driven away, but no, I leave a freaking not with my number, which is the right thing to do. The problem is now I have to sort out how to pay for this, I have insurance but I just don't even have enough money to pay my excess.....grrrr, why can't I just be normal and drive away......
Rant over.

Hugs Natalie. I would have done the same thing,...know it would be easier for me to just drive away, but then not have the heart to do it when I knew its not "right". You did the right thing even tho it doesnt seem like it and will cost you $$.

personaly I think you did the right thing. Imagine if it was your pride and joy car that someone had scratched and then just drove away... I always put myself in their shoes... Our car got backed into when dh was at work and they left a note - but there was no such number when we rung it.... I guess someone saw them do it, so they pretended to put a note and ph number on the car.... grrr it pis##d us off.

Our insurance means we don't have to pay excess for someone else's car... are you sure about yours? We're with AMI.

I was going to say the same thing as Teresa, if you have full cover you shouldn't have to pay your excess ifyou don't claim for damage on your car, it will affect you no claims bonus though

What comes around goes around....so I hope that if someone does that to your car that they leave a note.
I saw a car scrape another car and then drive off. I'd taken the rego of the car that caused the scrap and as it scraped a company car I rang the company to give them the details.....but the people who did the damaged had already called in. They wouldn't have seen me.

Just think of what might have happened if you hadn't left a note - karma might have come round and bit you on the butt big time! So now you have earnt positive karma something good has to happen!

Good on you for being honest, I would definitely leave my details too cause Karma's a bitch.
You never know what sort of financial situation or personal circumstances the other person could be in, so it would be unfair to leave someone in the lurch even if it seems easier.

Snap Pepsi, I was just about to write the same thing before I read your post. Feel good knowing that the person who's car it was might not be very well of financially or having a really bad time. Good on you for leaving your details, I wish everyone was so honest.
When I lived in Auckland someone hit the rear drivers side of my car when it was parked on the street and didn't leave any details. Cost heaps of money because the door completely buckled and I was so upset. Never found out who it was either. And then the car was stolen! (see Nikki's thread!)
Back on topic - you did the right thing, which is often not the easiest course of action. Ethan has a very good role model!

You totally done he right thing I absolutely believe in karma so would have done the same thing even tho I wouldnt be able to afford it either. I took a $25 packet of meat back into pak n save that hadnt scanned and I forgot to tell the lady so while packing my car came across it and ran in and paid for it. It would have been nice to have free meat but what goes round def comes round and bites hard!!!!!!

Good on you! It is not always easy being honest (especially when $ is concerned!)
ETA Recently my DH tripped over a cord and broke our SKY decoder so we spent an evening trying to come up with stories so we didn't have to pay to fix it (we were upgrading anyway) but in the end decided to be honest and say what happened - they phoned the other day and said there was no charge. Could easily have meant $ we don't have.
