Topic: Im sick of... Posted: 13 July 2007 at 3:03pm |
People telling my that my baby is ginormous! They say it like they can't believe he is only 8 weeks old and that it's not possible for him to be so huge and that I must be overfeeding him!
Ok, so he was 9lb 1oz and 57CM long at birth, so he was pretty big and long, and he is now 14lbs and 61CM which is on the high end of the scale, but to me he's just my little wee boy. He has height and stockiness on both sides!
What is wrong with having a healthy, happy baby with a good appetite?
Why do people inadvertantly make me feel like I'm a bad mother for having a bonny baby!
Oh and the stupid GP said that formula fed babies will keep eating and eating and eating no matter how much you give them and that I must be horrendously over feeding him for him to be 14lbs already. I am his mother, I know when he is full and he spits the bottle out and refuses to take it when he has had enough, so there!!

1: your not a bad mother
2: I would rather see a happy, healthy, cubby buba then a little skinny one. Dont most boys eat lots any ways? at the people who think they know your son better

Gosh that must make you mad. Krystiana was the same length but 'only' 8lbs at birth and her height is currently off the chart LOL and her weight is kinda proportioned but not off the chart thankfully
People make rude comments regardless of what you do - I was apparently a thinnish gobble guts as a baby and my grandparents kept telling my mum (their daughter) that she was starving me and tried to feed me honey/jam off a spoon LMAO. Anyway it pays to have a quick reply ready before they can spit out their regular answer. "Just wait til he's running - he'll work it all off" or "better start training his future wife to cook" or "I love his chubby cheeks".... something that like tends to change the tide on dumb comments.

Oh Renee Poor you. Sam isn't that unusual I would think. Noah weighed 14lbs when he was 7 weeks old and he was fully breastfed. Some babies are just bigger and they are so cute when they are chubby with their lovely rolls and big round cheeks.
I had the opposite with Christopher. People would ask me what was wrong with my small baby He weighed 14 lbs when he was 15 weeks so was quite a bit smaller.

Annoying, thoughtless people! I can't believe your GP said that!
I had a 'bonny' baby as well and used to get so annoyed at those sorts of comments. Worst of all were the number of people who said 'you must be a good cow' - that just ticked me off no end. I'm not a cow!! I do more than just feed my daughter!
Sam sounds like a very healthy, happy, NORMAL (if there is such a thing) baby and you are obviously doing a fantastic job. Yay for the bonny babies!

people always make comments - if it's not how big he is, it would be something else. My boys were pretty good eaters too. not so big originally, but you know how most babies lose weight a few days after birth? well, mine put on. and they fed and fed and fed. BUT both are heavy children, but not fat by any means - "compact" or "condensed" i call them

I was told by my plunket nurse that my oldest was obese when she was 10mth old I cried my eyes out thinking I was the worst mum and raced off to the GP to be told "your baby is perfectly healthy and keep doing waht your doing". I never went back to plunket again!!

How rude, but people always want to comment and will always try and find something to comment on. He is fine don't worry I think he is so cute, spec in your ticker photo.

Sienna taught me that you CAN overfeed a formula baby - but they get rid of the excess by throwing up all over you
Maybe Sam is just meant to be a big boy. I had the opposite with Maya being so big at birth and then getting really sick and scrawny but she's found her own growth curve and is still really lean. Whereas the gremlins were small at birth and are now ginormous. Well not quite ginormous but they doubled their birth weight by 3 months. So babies will grow the way they want to grow.
Tell your GP to sod off and then find a new one
ETA: My 'skinny' baby could demolish three tins of baby food in a sitting, my "chubby" babies share one tin between them and even then often don't finish it.

We had the same Renee! Caitlin was born 9lb 7.5oz but she was only 51cm so it make her look bigger.
We were constantly being asked how much formula we were giving her and giving her anything else, this was when she was tiny and way before it was even time to think about solids!
Personally, I'm glad she was a big baby! I was terrified of handling small/skinny babies in case I might break/hurt them. But babies with a bit of meat on them just put me at ease (that makes me sound a bit weird aye? LOL)
Anyways, stuff the GP and get a new one! Unless Samuel is flying off the percentile charts (which I doubt!) then he's perfectly healthy.

how rude!!! babies are soooooo different, how can anyone comment on them!
i'm coming from the other end of the scale...jack was born 5lb 12oz and i was constantly getting the 'oh, he's very little isn't he' comments and looks from people as though i wasn't feeding him.
they will do what they will do and that's all there is to it.....as long as sam is happy and healthy then that's all that matters.
BTW that ticker pic is sooooo gorgeous!!

Yep! They are really little eaters. They do like their bottles tho.

Renee I'm with the others - you are doing a great job! I find it kinda rude how everyone seems to feel they can comment on your babys size, and of course 'you' know your baby, not them, and you know that he is happy and healthy, and after all that is the most important thing.
I had the same issues (and still do) with Elle, she was a 10lb (well 9lb15 - pretty blimmin close to 10lb) at birth, people still say that now, and she really hasn't put on a heck of a lot of weight since birth (is now 14lb4), I have started to tell them to sod off (in my nicest, smiling way )
You are such a good Mummy! Don't worry bout them! He is such a gorgeous wee bubba!

I love his facial! It's like Sam's saying "muuum, you're musceling in on my ticker photo, what will the girls say?"
