Aaargh....our sleep issues with Alyssa have gone from bad to worse recently.. She hasn't been sleeping through which was bad enough, but just in the last week or so she absolutely screams when I put her in her cot. It started off she would scream just when I put her in it for daytime naps and now this has extended to doing the same thing at bedtime.
It was only a week ago she was totally happy and relaxed after her bath, feed, and reading routine and would let me place her down a little sleepy but awake then would be asleep within 10 minutes or so. How can this change so suddenly?!?! I hate listening to her cry like this...if I go into her room and pick her up she instantly stops and even tries to sleep on my shoulder, but the minute I put her back down again she starts all over with the crying.
Is this what happens when separation anxiety kicks in?

Sep anxiety I think is usually closer to the 9m mark than the 12m mark - it could be that though. Have you checked temp or teeth? It actually sounds more like it could be her first set of molars due around her 1st birthday - like she's ok but just wants some extra comfort.
Is she attached to a special toy etc? May help for settling if it is sep anx.

hmmm it may pay to take her to the doc and get her checked out. Just to make sure its not an ear thing or anything else. If all else fails check her user manual......

Ben did exactly this about a month ago, so at 12mths, it lasted for a week, it was like he suddently hated his cot or being left and screamed his little head off.
We though it could be his teeth, but no it was just a phase and after a week of continously going in and picking him up leaving it 3 minutes going in again he resettled, I'm sure she will do the same

We have just been through this - and in the end we figured it was his molars cutting (he's cut three now one to go). Yip I hate teeth he is so not a good teether. As soon as we went back into him to give him a cuddle he would settle straight away. He has improved over this last week thank goodness but he still is waking up crying in the mornings rather than his normal talking.

We've been having this too - combination of teeth and illness I think. Was much better last night, so heres hoping its on the wane....
Now we just need to get him to stop waking in the middle of the night and want to come and snuggle with mummy!! My bad - I let him come in with us whilst he was really sick and now.... created a rod for my own back

Well, tonight I got Alyssa ready for bed expecting the usual bedtime battle of the last week and amazingly she has gone down in her cot without crying!!!
The only thing I tried differently tonight is I grabbed one of her stuffed toys that I notice she likes to touch when she's tired and she clung to it as I left the room. She hasn't really formed an attachment to anything so it was a long shot. Now, I don't know if that was the magic trick or maybe just that her teeth feel better or what, but I'll take it!!! Fingers crossed it will stay this way!

Well, we had a SHOCKING night last night. He solidly slept from 7.30pm til 11pm - then was grizzling every hour on the hour til 5am when he decided it was up time. I'm going mad with lack of sleep

I'm so pleased I'm not the only one - can't remember the last time Fabian slept through the night - he's either always teething or broncholitis or just for the sake of wanting to be with me (real mummys' boy!) I have on average 3-4 hours sleep a night, then if he is in bed with me, maybe an hour here and there (not great trying to function at work!) if I leave him to cry he doesn't stop and I dont like the thought of him not thinking I care enough to go get him - I sometimes can leave him in bed with me for half an hour then when he's asleep take him back to his bed, but then sometimes that doesn't work either - I've given up as to what to do, I'm overly sleep deprived and miserable, his door is closed at night because we have cats, I amy leave it open one night and see if that fixes it, other than that I am at a loss, and am having to change jobs and take a week off work because I can't cope - well that was a long winded note!
