I am trying to decide on a steriliser to buy. The microwave ones are cheaper and look like they could be easier to use but are there any disadvantages and are the more expensive steam ones any better?

Iused the microwave avent one and it was really good and conveneint to use. i still use it for his dummy's to sterilize them. and sometimes will sterlize his bottles and teats but not often (don't need to) I also put the breast pump (avent) to sterilize in there too.

I use the electric Avent one and it's great. It only takes 6 minutes to sterilise 6 bottles and you can put the breast pump and dummies in too. It will keep stuff sterile for up to 12 hours which is handy if you don't make the bottles up all at once.

I use the microwave Avent steriliser. I have been using it for 2 months now and find it really easy. It takes around 5 mins in the microwave to sterilise 4 bottles, teats, lids or whatever you can fit in it

I used a microwave one and loved it. This time round I actually brought self sterilising bottles and they were fantastic. I could do as many at a time that i wanted rather than waiting till the steriliser was full plus if i was out and got caught short it was easy to sterilise a bottle, just need water and a microwave

Thanks for all the replies. I was looking at getting an avent one as I've been given an avent breast pump. Think I'll go with the microwave one then.

or take it out and put it on your stove top after you have just cooked tea. I did that and melted the bottom of it and stunk out the house

Oh no James!! That sounds like something I would do at the momment. I accidently put a bottle in for 25 mins instead of 25 seconds. I wandered back to get the bottle a few minutes later, it was still going and the milk was bubbling oops! hehe

We have one (but I only use 1 bottle a day I don't need to use it) but for Andrew who was fully bottle fed the microwave steriliser was great. I have some tablets as well (Karicare I think) as we got them to take overseas with us when Andrew was a baby.
I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

We have an Avent microwave steriliser (version 2 I think?) and in our microwave it only takes 2mins so is very quick. I think the amount of time depends on the wattage of your microwave.
We bought ours when Farmers had a 30% off nursery equipment sale but I know at the moment KiwiBaby have 20% off avent.

Another fan of the Avent microwave one here, and in the early days I sterilised up to 20 bottles a day plus the breast pump and accessories several times a day as well so I've definitely had my $40 or so worth.
