I'm trying to extend our fruit and veges at home, I think we have enough (probably just) but not that much variety. What fruit and veges are your usual pantry fillers?

Throughout summer my fruit bowl overflows with peaches, nectarines, apricots and plums but nothing really inspires me over the winter months. Although I ate nearly a whole bag of mandarins this week. For veges, it's usually courgettes, corn, onions, lettuce, carrots, broccoli, frozen stir-fry mix veges and mushrooms. I should eat more green ones like spinach and silverbeet and cabbage and sprouts but I HATE them.

I have to force-feed fruit and veges to my DP as he would quite happily live on garlic bread, chicken korma and hot chips.

But man I miss those summer fruits!

We are rather boring here... spuds, kumara, pumpkin, carrots, brocolli, cauli, lettuce, frozen peas, frozen mixed veg, sometimes parsnip. And fruit, I usually only buy fresh bananas and apples, but have lots of tinned fruit in the cupboard. Hmm, not that great, but at least we have veges most nights

We love our fruit and what ever fruit is in season is what we get. Still trying to figure out what fruit is when in season over here but getting the hang of it.

Veggies. We always have cauliflower and broccoli. (I absolutely love this.) We always have pumpkin in the freezer and peas. Then what ever is out that week.

I dont like cabage and beetroot that much.

Our staples are potatoes, onions, broccoli, carrots, capsicum, mushrooms, lettuce, tomatoes, apples, bananas and peas in the freezer.

I have to force feed DF too with vege, he could quite happily eat meat and no vege, i am the opposite.

I do like to buy what is in season and on special.

Mushrooms, carrots, broccoli, courgettes, onions, garlic (is that a vegetable lol), capsicums, tomatoes, pumpkin, potatoes and kumara. Different veges if I make something special.

Fruit: bananas, apples, mandarins (in winter). Kiwifruit when they come into season (still hard at the moment). Feijoas, grapes etc.. berry fruit in summer.
sometimes other fruit when I see it on special.

I LOVE goulbourn valley fruit pots for when they fruit in the bowl in uninspiring. I find it so much yummier than alot of the other tinned stuff. We have all the usuals, but always have fresh grapes and pineapple or strawberries and blueberries or kiwiberries, we usue these as "lol lols" for Jake, he loves them.

Gisborne is great for getting free produce - at playcentre we seem to be working on a bit of barter system.

We have for fruit - feijoas at the moment, mandarins (free from huibby's uncle) apples, *ditto), bananas, kiwifruit, lemons, oranges and pears, and tinned - pineapple, peaches, fruit salad, pears

Veges we have (need to do a shop mind you!) brocolli, carrots, courgettes, kamokamo, pumpkin, spuds, kumara, silverbeet (in garden), peas, beans, stiry fry veges,

usually also have some cauliflower in the freezer, as well as some spring onions, celery (when cheaper than $4!!!), tomatoes, lettuce (that package mix from pns) - must add that we have tupperware fridge container and they really keep veges fresher for longer!!! try three weeks for crisp celery! (my gf pays me in tupperware for babysitting)

you are lucky with the fresh produce in gisborne. DF was living there till I clubbed him over thehead and brought him down to CHCH and it is much harder to get the variety and freshness here.

Maya won't eat canned fruit which is a bugger when I haven't done the fruit and veg shopping. Her and Willie eat around $60 worth of fruit between them a week - bananas, apples and oranges are staples, plus seasonal stuff like manadarins, pears, grapes, kiwi, berries (she loooves blueberries). I'm a 'banana a day' girl, thats the extent of my fruit.

Vege-wise - I eat a lot of veg so every week we get mixed salad leaves, colored capsicums, tomato, cucumber, carrot, spud, kumara, courgettes, onions, mushrooms. Maya loves broccoli, beans and cauli, plus I get whatever other veg are on special/in season like eggplant, asparagus, squash, pumpkin. Frozen I get sweetcorn and stir fry veg.

Oh and I've recently started buying "snack cuc's" - gherkin size cucumbers, they are great for Maya's lunchbox and she loves cucumber. I also chuck in raisins or dried apricots, and sometimes chopped up capsicum or I cook an extra piece of sweetcorn at dinner and chuck it in her lunchbox.
