Topic: Progesterone pessaries in early preg Posted: 18 January 2010 at 6:03pm |
HI, can anyone help me? My GP said she's not prepared to commit an answer because it's outside of her field of expertise....
With my last frozen transfer, it was suggested that I use the Utrogestan (progesterone) pessaries to support the embryo (that preg failed). I am today 5 weeks and 5 days preg (naturally!) and its struggling a bit and may not be viable I don't know, I thought it had miscarried this am but the HCG has also very slowly climbed so I don't know what's going on. Should I / could I use the pessaries to support it. Can it hurt?
Not sure who else to ask, I could phone FA but I'm not currently a patient. I don't want this one to miscarry like the last one did!
Thanks

Hi bubbles,
Didn't want to read and run!! I would give FA a ring as you have been a patient with them before, and hopefully they would be able to advise you.
Good luck, I hope this little one hangs in there for you.

HI Bubbles
Fantastic to hear that you are pregnant naturally!! Fingers crossed the embryo sticks for you. I would definitley recommend that you phone FA. I know a lady who has have two failed cycles and is now pregnant naturally and FA Hamilton has monitored the beginning of her pregnancy and even did her 8 week scan... so good luck!!!

Thanks Bizzy and Country girl. I have now emailed FAW and asked some questions. I can't get my hopes up due to the poor HCG levels - so more limbo, just like during the IVF cycles.
I hope you are doing well Country girl, any success with the baby making?

Hi, you should read the topic called "unexplained? A simple solution." started by shezzey. I think you will find it an interetsing read for your situation.
All the best to you.

Hiya, I suffered from recurrent m/c and with my last pregnancy I was on Utrogestan pessaries from 4w to about 10w. It is the first pregnancy that I have made it past the first trimester in, in fact past 8 weeks. Definitely have a chat to them...I don't think our girls would be here without the pessaries.

HI, I have spoken with FAW and they say that progesterone supplementation prob makes no difference in natural pregs. So I hope that is accurate, because ill move ahead (now that I have apparently miscarried) and try again and hope that I don't need supplementation.

**Lurker**
Sorry Just thought I would say your GP can get your progesterone levels tested.. If they come back low then the pessaries can help (low progesterone can cause MC), however if they are high (and at a 'normal' level) then it wouldnt make any difference, as the progesterone would be sufficient to support the pregnancy already.
GL hun and I hope you have a sticky bean soon
