My birthday is 23rd. When i was 5 and realised i was "missing out" as such mum and dad said to pick any day in the year i wanted for my unnoficial birthday just like the queen so for what ever reason i chose july 4th. Each year i would have my party on that date and got 1 present from parents and then the other presents and a family tea on my actual birthday.
I dont think kids start to realise untill they are a wee bit older so a nice eve party would be a great idea till then.

I didn't read all the posts but one family tradtion we had was a special breakfast with icecream on birthdays. Would work well on Xmas day cause most xmas traditional stuff is later in the day.
When we were a little older we did the dishing up of the icecream so could have the most :P

I haven't read all the posts either, but I'm a Christmas Day baby.. people ALWAYS comment on it.. and sometimes I think its a sucky birthday, but the more I have thought about it, I actually think its the best birthday. I LOVE Christmas day, its my absolute fav day of the year .... I get so excited still about it, and I'm sure that's cause its my birthday too.... we always still have a birthday cake after dinner on Christmas day, and no one ever forgets my birthday. I used to have half birthday parties when I was younger, and for my 25th birthday is was the first time I had a party with friends on my actual birthday - we had a champagne breakfast. It was once people were old enough to do their own thing, and most people enjoyed the chance to hang with friends in the morning and then family the rest of the day.
Anyway, long story short, I think its a great birthday, always surrounded by family, and once your little one is older - they can always have a party a few weeks early, or may even chose the half-birthday thing for a bit of fun. (I used to say it wasn't fair that I got presents only once a year and my brother got them every 6 months since he's a June baby)!

My birthday is the 20th of December and Ive always LOVEDhaving my birthday so close to christmas day I was actually due boxing day.
My cousins used to give me a combined birthday/christmas present and I hated that because its two different celebrations! Everyone else gave me seperate pressies.

We've got lots of "On and Around Christmas Day" babies in our family.
Aunty on the 21st, DH and Uncle on the 25th, Step-Dad on the 26th, Cousin on the 28th.
So birthdays are always made a fuss of, even though it's chaotic with Christmas plans (especially all coming from broken/re-married familes where time is shared between different family members).
For DH we always make sure he has two pressies, one for each occasion (the bigger, more extravagant being for birthday) and we do a cake and sing happy birthday.
I always cook him a nice dinner and wish him a happy half birthday on the 25th of June each year

My BIL is a Christmas Day baby and my Dad is 22nd Dec, we also have a few more family b'days in December but for my BIL they celebrate his birthday in the morning, it's all about him, birthday breakfast, presents etc. Then Christmas day starts around lunch time. Personally I would love it, Christmas is the BEST day of the year and I think it would be really special! I like the idea of a birthday dinner on Christmas Eve too!
My Brother & SIL are due with their first baby on 1st Jan 2011 and people have already told them it's such a bad day to have a baby.. it's so ridiculous, a birthday will always be special regardless of what day it's on!!

Wow MamaPickle - that must be an absolutely crazy time of year for you guys! Crazy, but fun!
MrsEmma I think it's such a shame that parents to be get those sorts of comments. I guess some people just don't think. Recently I have had a few younger people tell me how great they think it is - that has made me feel better!
My plans are starting to take shape now I think. Now I just have to hope a few people are prepared to come out on an early Christmas Eve.

My family and I feel absolutely blessed that our wee man was born on Xmas day. Our 9 year old has made comments like Wow, he gets to have a special day to celebrate his birthday no-one has had anything negative to say (to our faces) about the day as we're always making it sound like the most wonderful thing because it really is He was 10 days late and now we are expecting another bubs on Boxing Day!...hopefully this one will be born on New Years Day!...lol...God's gift we are always grateful for regardless of the day he is born Blessings to all those mums and bubs who share their days with other special events
