I was just wondering if anyone has two children attending preschool that start at different times or if a preschool teacher on here could give me some advice?

To clarify my situation-
DD is 4 and under the 20hours free ECE. DS is 2 and we pay for him to attend 2 mornings a week.

THey both go 8.30 to 12.30 on a Weds morning but on a Fri DD has just started doing 9am-3pm whilst DS still does 8.30 - 12.30.

So therefore we have a half hour difference in start times. DS still has some difficulty with me leaving so it is best he goes at 8.30 as his lead caregiver goes on her break just before 9am there fore she can settle him in. But if I take DD that early I am effectively mucking up their ratios.

I asked today if she could do 8.30 til 2.30 but they said no. They said to start DS at 9am but as I mentioned above that is not ideal and then I would be paying for time he is not even there for.

They said that the only other option is to pay for a half hour for DS from 8.30 -9am which is only $3.40 but how does all of a sudden paying that little amount make their ratios better???

Does anyone else have this problem? Or can some one who works in the ECE area give me their perspective.

I am not wanting to be a whinger or anything I am just curious if there is another way round it?

Thanks heaps

I am no help. I would change preschool if they can't give you what you want.

I would ask why DD hrs can not be changed as they have offered her a 8.30 start if you pay extra, that does not make sense.

Does DD only got 2 days a week?
Have you looked at kindy for DD instead?

Last yr DS2 went to morning kindy & a few weeks before he turned 5 DS3 started afternoon kindy 3x a week, so I had to drop DS1 at school then drop DS2 at kindy then pick him up at lunch times & had 45mins to kill before DS3 started then drop him off & pick him up a couple of hrs later & go do the school pick up.....did my head in a bit. So If I put 2 of my kids into a preschool on the same days I would want the same hrs so I could do things.

The only thing I can think of is their 6 hour sessions for the 20 hours are 9 - 3?? it kind of doesnt make sense as your DD starts at 8.30 on the other day, when she does a morning session??
Did they explain why you couldnt change to 8.30 - 2.30? it is still only 6 hours.
I am a bit confused as to why they are being so inflexible, it must be about their session times?? Does it state anything in their info/enrolment booklet?
Good luck! I'm sure it is a great centre, as you have chosen to put your kids there, have a chat to someone and see if they can give you a bit more insight! :)
ETA: Just a thought - this isnt ideal, but could you stay with DD until 9, then you technically arent leaving her there before her booked in hours?

I was thinking similar lines - heading in about 8:30/8:45 to drop DS off, leaving close to 9am, so that then you can drop DD straight off.
OR.. so long as you are there while she is it should be ok - if you dropped DS off then headed in with DD and STAYED WITH HER till 9am, and signed on your way out, it should be kosher - as you are the one responsible for her.

They probably have the 6 hour day 9-3 as that is when the bulk of their teachers start.

I've never worked in sessional centres - just ones that are open fulltime hours- even if parents choose then to do a shorter day. I currently have DS booked in for the shorter day (7hours) and pick and drop him off somewhere between 9-4 which is what he is booked for. However if one day i was to change it (without notice) e.g. drop off at 9:30 and pick up at 4:30 i would expect to be charged extra as it is more than what is booked. But if i give notice that i am changing it 1 day, then it is good, the paperwork trail is there. sorry thats a ramble lol.
