So it looks like Amelia is having some issues taking cows milk , even with just half a bottle a day ( mixed with formular, and other feeds being fully formular or breast), she seems to be screaming in pain an hr or so after having it and then gets quite constipated , went to dr today about something else but did brush by the subject , he said just to keep her on formular for a while longer as her digestive system is not ready ( even tho she will be one tuesday week ) , she also had sevre reflux as a young baby where she would scream in pain too so im wondering if its in any way linked ? what im wondering is : would it be ok to put her on the toddler formular ? ( i bought a tin of the karicare toddler formular for 1+ ) but then i figured maybe it would be to harsh on her tummy , so thought maybe i should just leave her on the 6mth plus one , Any suggestions would be great , shes been having cows milk on weetbix for a few mths no problem and yogurt. Sorry to put this in general , i just thought id get some more suggestions as more people read . thanks in advance

If you have the tin you could always try it, you know she's fine on the current formula & you don't have to change up to the next one. It can be just a gimmick to keep you buying formula longer than just using plain old cows milk. I'd agree with the dr to wait, give it a couple of months & try her on cow again.

My daughter always had some problem with lactose/cows milk.. Still not too sure what exactly is wrong because i found paediatricians and doctors were no help and always said 'oh, it's just because she's not ready. She'll grow out of it. blah blah' She's now 2 and still has problems, though not as bad. I had heaps of trouble breast feeding because she had reflux and it was extremely hard to get her to settle after feeds. At 6 weeks i gave up breastfeeding and put her on formula (she was already getting 'top ups' for a week or so as well as BF) but she still had reflux and was really upset. I changed to a lactose free formula and she got alot better! but still wasn't 100%. Ended up putting her on Soy and wow.. all of a sudden, she was a completely different baby! So happy. No reflux. No horrible runny, frothy poos.. nothing. Now, i put cows milk on her weet-bix but try not to give her cereal/cows milk every day because it makes her explode in her nappy... which is not nice >.<
If you feel there is something wrong. Kick your doctors ass and get them to actually help! I wish i'd been a lot harder back when i was trying to work things out.. And if i have the same problems with #2, i definitely will be getting my boot ready =P

Jake couldn't have cows milk either and the only formula he could have was goats. He had severe GERD too - it damaged his stomach and esophagus. Even now hes abit iffy with cows dairy.
I'd just keep her on the formula for now. Jake was on formula til he was 18months then I switched him to a mixture of goats milk and liddels lactose free milk.

we you switched from cows to soy how long before you saw the improvement? We just started feeding our boy soy last night after seeing a doctor and he's still not 100%.

My kids went to toddler formula about 14-18mths & went on to cows milk after 2+yrs & we never had any problem. I made weetbix & mashed veg with cows milk for them after they were 1yr old.
