Maternity pads: which brand and how many?

LOL, how about don't bother!
I got 2 packs of 10 at the alarming price that they charge and only needed half a pack till my bleeding settled down on day 5 and I needed regular pads.

Yea I used them at the hospital, took the rest of the pack home, and then went onto supers.

Ok, so i was the exception - i just kep on bleeding and bleeding, but then i usually have very long and very heavy AF anyway so maybe had something to do with it.

After usingup all the pads the hospital gave me - which is the same as becks said, about 2 packs.. those were used up in 2 days if that for me. I then found that libra goodnights were awesome for probably the first week, especially at night, but towards the end of that week, i was using the libra maternity ultra thins during the day. Libra invisible super is also really good too. I got i think 2 pack sof the goodnights second time around, and 2 packs of the libra maternity ultrathin, then just lots of normal packs of the super which i could use again once period came back anyway.

Like Mazzy said though, i found that the cushioning of the thicker ones like the libra goodnights, was kinda nice for the first few days, especially after i had paris and had stitches to contend with too, it lessened the "ouch" factor a little.

With Maya I pinched a couple of packs from Birthcare before I left and that did me for a wee while, but I did bleed quite heavily for the first couple of weeks.

With the gremlins by the time I came home from Birthcare on day 4 the bleeding was pretty light and so I could have gotten away with just regular pad, but used the maternity ones coz I'd stocked up on them. I found the Kotex ones the best, but I don't know if you can get them here (I got them in Oz).

This whole maternity pad things sounds horrible....you just arent told these things, I thought pregnancy was a break from AF....not that you store up 9 months worth for one go!

he he i didn't really think ahead too much with Paris and didn't get too many.. I think i sent mike out quite a few times to buy more supers just cos i had thought "oh surely it wil have stopped by the end of this pack" nope.. wit her i think was 7 weeks. I was well and truely over it.

I used the hospital ones for the 4days in hospital and the nurses there stashed some extras in my bag, once I ran out of them I went to Libra maternity liners, for a week then normal liners. I went through alot of liners due to my stitches as I was ver finatic about keeping them super clean, so I prob went throguh a pack in a few days and I stopped bleeding about 6wks after the birth.
It all depends on you and your body and your circumstances.

I recommend the thick, super, Budget brand. It was recommended to me by a parenting centre when I had my first baby. They were great. Good cushioning (an important thing when you're feeling somewhat sore). Just use two for a while, stuck together and overlapping. I foolishly tried a more expensive, maternity pad when I had my second baby - not nearly so good - so reverted to my favourite - Budget... I needed them for about 5 weeks after baby 2, and for about 3 weeks after baby 1.

I went through heaps - heavy bleeding and also paranoid about infection with stitches. I also went through most of the ones I had bought before she was born due to rupture of membranes 76 hours before her birth. I thought the pams maternity ones were the best - and I did try a few differnt brands
