Topic: Nice maternity jeans - Help please Posted: 20 September 2007 at 10:21pm |
I need tidy maternity jeans that actually have a nice cut (have tried PP ones that I don't like - they make my legs look all dumpy) - like a bootleg cut or something for casual wear and to wear to work. I did buy some Egg boyfriend jeans which looked great on, but if you see my other thread, didn't really work out.
I don't like really really dark or light coloured jeans, and the budget is about $140 absolute maximum. Any suggestions (even Egg ones with a different waistband) would be appreciated.

Emz - where are you located? There is a shop in Auckland, on Williamson Ave in Ponsonby called Smarty Pants, where they sell new and 2nd hand maternity clothes, I got some really nice jeans from there....they had loads of different pairs and different brands.

emz I tried on 4 different styles of PP jeans and yeah 3 of them were horribly cut and made me look like I had thunder thighs but the 4th style was good.
They were $60 and they're the ones with the elastic waistband and the sort of pinstripe effect in the denim. The waistband is comfy, doesn't fall down and doesn't fold like I've heard the egg ones do (oh wait that was you ). I've had people comment on how much they like them and they're genuinely suprised when I pull up my shirt and show them they're maternity jeans.
I don't know whether you got to try those as they seem to have different styles in different stores but in one store I was in the girl pulled out a folder with pictures of all their styles so I could have a look through them. If you've only tried on the dark denimn and black denimn with the adjustable waistband then I would recommend having a look at these ones too.

I brought mine off Trademe for $45, they are Mummy's Tummy they are based in Ponsonby Auckland, but I'm sure if you do a search on her name you'll find her. She's really helpful and I lived in mine. I'm actually still wearing them as they are so comfortable.

Mummy's Tummy no longer have a retail outlet, which is a shame, but they do sell their stuff through Smarty Pants (See above). The owner of Smarty Pants often sells things on TM too.

They're a size 2 Topsy, they told me to come in and talk about my issues with them, so I'll let you know if I don't get a refund/exchange and I need to sell them.

Topsy - I was a 12-14 pre-pregnancy and was in between sizes at Egg (between 2 & 3) and the lady said to go for the smaller size because they'd stretch. Don't know if that's true or not! I would think you'd be fine in a size 2. Anyway, I took them back today, they have to send them up to Auckland to get checked out, then I have to come back to get a new pair or get a different style or store credit if they don't have any of those. The lady said that they were definitely faulty, and "oh yeah, we've actually had a couple of these with this problem lately" yet I still have to wait about a week to get a replacement/refund. Great customer service? Me thinks not!
So I'll see how I go and will either sell the ones I get in exchange if they don't stretch (as I seem to have gained a bit in the butt in the last 2 weeks) or I'll keep them. I hate clothes shopping at the best of times, let alone when you get messed around with dodgy items.
