I should start by saying that I believe in the Dr Sprott products....and do not wish to start a right vs wrong discussion in here. However - I am curious as to whether people have used them on basinetts or just cots? I used one last time around with O on both, but some of that was that the basinett / mattress was second hand and I was a bit of a nervous ninny. This time around we have a nicer new basinett and mattress.

What are you thoughts on using a Dr Sprott cover on a basinett mattress?

Thanks

We didn't. Funnily I thought about it for the cot but not the bassinette!! It only lasted on the cot for a few weeks as DS got to hot sleeping on it so its now in the drawer.

I'd be less concerned now you have a new mattress.

I haven't used them and I'm not a particularly paranoid person when it comes to stuff like that...but for peace of mind, I think it's only about $20 for the Dr Sprott cover in the bassinette size?

From what I know about them, the covers are used to prevent chemicals coming out of the mattress and affecting the baby and risk of SIDS, therefore regardless of whether the mattress is new or secondhand, basinnette or cot sized, if you are concerned about that I think you should get one...

Edited to make sense!

I used one on the bassinette mattress -- and our bassinette mattress was new -- the bassinette was DH's when he was little, but we got a new mattress (and then when I was at birthcare, I got concerned that the new one we bought was too soft, so sent DH to get yet another new one -- the firmest one possible before I brought DS home!!)

When DS was so little, I was just so paranoid about anything happening to him.

It just gave me some peace of mind. (Mind you, I also used a Angelcare monitor and a Safe-T-Sleep -- and never left him alone!!)

I'm a whole lot more relaxed now, so never bothered putting one on the cot (and we co-sleep now anyway...)

First time around we used a babesafe cover on both bassinet & cot (& they were both new mattresses), however didn't last long on the cot - i think from memory we were concerned it was a bit noisy when she was tossing & turning in her sleep. We also had an angelcare monitor & second time round with our son we brought another new bassinet mattress but didn't bother with the covers & just used the angelcare. No real reason for not using them second time round, if you still have the bassinet one & are worried i'd put it on.

I used one on the cot only. Not on the bassinet, but that was just because I didn't know about it that early, it was only when we were looking for a cot mattress that we read/heard about the sprott covers.

And know I have the dilemma of getting one for #2 bassinet... and should I get a new mattress for #2 as well!?!

We had one on the cot mattress, but I hated it cos it was so crunchy and noisey even with something over it, so I got a matress protector from the Sleep Store instead.
