Safe and Sound seem to be a firm favourite. I've got a Guardian and it's good... there are a few threads around though. I'll try find them and bump for ya.

I have also heard really good things about Safe & Sound ones.
From experience, I would avoid the IGC/Go Safe/Mothers Choice ones, unless you've got a fairly short child. They are perfectly fine as far as car seats go, but are quite a bit shorter in the back than others & we found that Matthew outgrew them really quickly because he was too tall - like by 18 months, we had to get something else for him! We've got a Cosco one in our other car & it's got a really high rear facing weight limit, so he's actually still rear-facing in that one.

I've heard that Mother's Choice are cheap and nasty - the safety bar can snap, go figure! I have found the Safe n Sound (Guardian or similar) the best on the market for size, adjustability, and price.

Well I have a Mother's Choice and haven't had any problems with it in the 3 years it has been in use. Yes it is a little shorter than the others but it still does its job, and my very tall boy was still fine to sit in it up until a month ago.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Wow great timing! We've just recently decided we're going to get a convertible carseat too so I'm very interested in these replies.
Does anyone know anything about Phil & Teds??

I wouldn't go for a P&T, go for a S&S or Hipod (ideally), or the Cosco Touriva as a person above has- the 16kg Rearfacing weight limit is fantastic - my 2.9 year old is still RF in his.
Anyways, things to look for are a long 'life', front and rearfacing tethers (in an Aussie seat), tall back, and one that actually fits in your car :) If you go to Baby Factory and smile sweetly at them, they may let you try a few. (But be choosy about the 'advice' they give, I have had a few interesting comments! )
Happy carseat shopping!
