    Posted: 07 November 2007 at 12:00am
My baby is due in Jan, but I plan on going back to study after a bit... and my friend has just informed me that she has ordered me an Avent Electric Breast Pump at her pharmacy (I assume an iQ UNO - she said that it was around $300 retail price but she gets a 33% staff discount)

Anyways... I was wondering if people could give me any advice/comments about them... did you find it easy to use? Were the parts reliable? Any special tips or hints that would help me out with using it?

I would appreciate anything you could tell me about them!!
Chloe (4 years) and Oliver (3 years).

I got one second hand from an ohbaby mum and it was a lifesaver!!! I love mine.. I didnt find anything about it unreliable or anything.

I don't know of any hints other than always use the letdown cushion thing. it works great!

I had the avent manual pump and that was awesome, lent it to a lady at coffee group who now wants to buy it from me, so I would assume the electric one is even better.
Oh erm you can buy VIA cups that avent make, they interconnect with their pumps and bottles/teats so that you can express and stick it straight in the freezer and don't need to worry about keep transfering it from bottle to container to bottle. They can be used for freezing home made baby food later on as well. I think they were about $30 for 10 cups lids and 2 adapters for fitting to the pump/teats.

I've got one too & love it! So easy & comfortable to use. To reheat expressed milk you just stand the bottle in a container of hot water for a few minutes.

yep stand it in some hot water for a few mins.. if you need to thaw it from freezing - stick it in a container with cold water in the back of the fridge and let it thaw - it's only good for 24 hours post-thawing though.

Breast pumps are great... I just have a manual one, which worked great for me, but a friend had the one you are talking about and LOVED it as she expressed a lot more. So what Im trying to say is I think eletric is a great idea if you are going to be using it quite a bit.

I've got a heap of the Avent Via cups too, they are brilliant. In their first life, they were used to store breast milk in the freezer/fridge as I expressed it, and now I use them for storing baby food in the freezer and I find they hold the perfect amount.

I used Stacey's one and it was great when I had a few blocked ducts, it cleared them up straight away.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!
