Topic: The great things about kids... Posted: 07 May 2009 at 12:31pm |
I was talking to my cousin about this this morning...your favourite things about children (knowing them, having them, whatever)...
Mine: It takes SO little to make your child happy (most of the time anyway ) . All I need to do is take my 4 year old to the park along with a picnic of sandwiches and fruit, and he is the happiest wee man. Everyday sitting down for half an hour reading books...I get the best cuddles and smiles, just because he is enjoying doing something so simple with me. I know that will probably change as he gets older, but I'm loving it while I've got it.
Another is kids don't hide ANYTHING, if they're happy...they genuinely show it. For instance, I gave a 5 year old family member her birthday present...a simple little toy pony with brushes etc, and she literally squealed for excitement and had to play with it right then and there.
Adult don't react like that, even if they're pleased, they don't show it quite so enthusiastically.
I know! Kinda a soppy subject, but what are yours...?

I have a whole list of things I love about Michaela and it could go on but I'll just post a few.
- When I look at her, or even just think about her, I feel like my heart is going to burst because I love her so much.
- She loves simple things. I don't need to spend big money to impress her or keep her occupied and happy.
- She loves to help me. Making the dinner and cleaning the fridge etc aren't chores to her
- She forgives so quickly. She'll be so upset and angry because I've put her in time out but by the time the timer goes off she's calm, ready to do whatever she'd been asked and desperate for a cuddle.
- She says the most beautiful things to me. We are "best friends for eber" (not a typo, that's how she says it) and "mummy I love you wiz all mine heart" are regulars this weekend she was singing and I commented on her beautiful voice and she said "just like you mum" (I must get her hearing checked
).
- I love watching her and DH interact, they have such a special relationship.

I going into Rowan's room when she's just woken up and hearing her say 'mummy' with a big smile.
(or hearing her say 'daddy' over the monitor when DH goes in)

 Aww, how gorgeous is that.
My boy (4) has just started really showing an interest in his little sister...he went into her when she woke up from her last sleep and put his fingers through the bars of her cot to hold her hand. She adores him and her little eyes follow him wherever he goes.

I love going into Sams room and him saying "MAMA!!" really excitedly.
I love how he can make his eyebrows go up and down repeatedly and make me burst out laughing because his little mouth opens and shuts at the same time!
I love how when he is upset or he doesn't want me to go somewhere he will climb right on top of me and say "mama come here' even if I'm right there!
I love how he makes up his own games that always involve some sort of daredevil stunt from the arm of the couch, onto my head, or into my arms and then say 'OH NO SAM!'
I love how he wakes me up at 4AM by poking me in the eye with a peg that's on the end of his finger or sticking a small ball into my eye socket and watching it roll down my face (I REALLY love it when he does that)
I just love that it's so easy to entertain him and it's so easy for him to entertain me!
It's just been the two of us for a while and I have loved that.

Oooh what do I love about Callum?
Well, his chubby little legs are pretty exciting especially after they started off so skinny and chicken-like.
I well up every time I see DH playing and interacting with C in the mornings, it takes so little to get the biggest smiles from Callum and I love that DH is so into him.
I love the sound of him talking to his toys.
What do I think is cool about kids in general?
I LOVE the way you can actually see stuff ticking over in their heads, or the way sometimes they have something desperate to tell you and then they say, "I love you" or "You look like a princess."

What do I love about children ?
eventually they fall asleep ......
Haha , no, seriously
I love,
The way children are so free with their emotions, and not afraid to proclaim their love for you , C still does , no matter where we are (public toilets, Farmers, the supermarket ...) she doesnt have a problem loudly saying "I love you mum! your my favourite mum in the whole world " so of course I have to say it back just as loudly .
Which brings me to another thing I love about children , they allow you to learn not to care so much what others think , yeah , im wearing lipstick on my teeth , and my clothes clash, but you know what ? my girl made me up today , so all I care about is the joy on her face when mummy was proud enough to go out like that
I love the lessons you learn through them , how when you say sorry , mean it with all your heart or don't say it at all , and that cuddles and forgiveness is so much more fun than being grumpy and sulky .
That things like brown leaves aren't just brown leaves, they are a whole fantasy world ready to be jumped in (literally )
I love watching her become the person she is , clever, bright and inquisitive, loving loyal and funny .
I love her face , I think shes beautiful and I still look at her and think , wow , your'e so pretty and you came from me .
I love that I can go over every mistake I made in life, all the people I have hurt (intentionally , and unintentionally ) along the way , all the many reasons why happiness could have turned its back on me , but then I see my girl , with her arms reaching up to hug me , and I think , obviously someone out there thought I deserved a chance at happiness despite all ive done, because if I didn't why would I have been given the gift of her ? everything bad , everything good , thats happened in my life, led me down the path to her , and I wouldn't change one step of it for the world .
Not with an outcome like that .
Thats what I love

They have the most contagious laughter and you know its genuine!
They find excitement in the small things. Last night we just went to Cob n Co for dinner and she went around telling everyone "I'm going to Cob'n'Co for dinner and I'm sooooo excited"
And when you are having a bad day they want to make it better and one big cuddle and kiss from them is sure to do the trick

I love playing *hide & seek* with Amy and how she always hides in the same place and tells you where she is going to hide and how she giggles the whole time we are *looking* for her .
I love how she is so excited about the little things, like a spiders web or getting a sticker for going on the toilet.
I love how Sophie now runs down the hall to welcome DH home at night with her arms stretched as wide as they can go. And how she gives me her cheeky smile before doing something she knows she shouldn't do .
I love how beautiful they are when the are asleep (and awake)and how they love each other so much (I am an only child and it is amazing to watch them together)

For me almots everything except the unnecessary tantrums or nagging.
But things that recently stands out:
I need more cuddles mom. You give the best cuddles in the whole world.
You are the most special girl in the whole wide world ( I tell her this and she tells me back) and then she adds: You are a cute mom, mom.
Telling me she will take care of Andrew and showing me how she is going to rock the baby.
Seeing her communicate with her brother in the tummy. She have to kiss and cuddle up to my tummy a few times a day.
She carries pillows to me after Playcentre to the couch and tells me she will take care of me and gives me hugs and kisses (this from a 3 year old 5 month old child) She is just the total best.
Her going through her cuddly toys all by herself and deciding what she wanted to give to Andrew.
Insisting that we put teh cot up and totally obsessed with buying him stuff as she feels she has enough.
This child is seriously my angel and the total sunshine in our lives.
Her total innocence in stuff: Like pointing the stretch marks out in my tummy and asking me is that due to Andrew's room growing bigger and informing me that my bum and boobs are getting bigger.
I can go on and on and on.

i love
jake's interpretation of things "these are my chocolate friends" = kids from india and africa
the way he meets a kid, and instantly makes friends
how he "hates" kisses at then moment - then sneaks them from me
how he 'reads" to his brother
how he runs around like a nutter at soccer and does little jumps when he gets excited
Taine
how he refuses to let me read to him, and take off to look at his books
how he plays with his thomas train re-enacting scenes "bust my buffers said thomas"
how he is incredibly gentle with animals
how he has no fear with animals - can walk around grinning with alpacas about four times bigger than him
how they see the world as so black and white - the 'goodies" and the "baddies" - life is so simple

Not sure how long it is going to last though, We were the only people there all night and their prices are getting really expensive. They do have good serving sizes though, I dont think I even ate half my meal.

I agree with the laughter, a baby or young childs laughter is the most gorgeous sound ever.
I love the way DD puts her hands on my face and tells me she loves me.
I also love watching her and DH play, she just adores her daddy, the way she looks at him is heart breaking sometimes.
Spencer is a bit too little yet but I love his babbles and coos. The way his eye brows go up and eyes roll back when he is BF, it's like he's in heaven, lol!

I love the infectious laughter I get from a simple game of boo.
I love that when I get DS up in the morning he wraps his arms round my neck so tight.
I love the way he says mum mum mum.
I love that he loves me unconditionally despite my flaws and little mistakes as a first time mum.
I love the way that he melts my heart everytime I think of him or look into his gourgous blue eyes.

Awww
What sweet stories!
I have had lots of Proud Mummy moments lately, I just love when DD achieves something for the first time, or even the 50th, like sitting unsupported or rolling from one side of the room to the other
I look forward to many, many more!!
I also gaze at her and think of when I was pregnant, and her birth, and how she has grown , how beautiful she is..
And i'm enjoying this time when she doesn't mind all the kisses and cuddles I smother her with lol
