Topic: Free school hols stuff for kids in Akl Posted: 24 September 2010 at 7:05pm |
We are coming up to akl for the school hols and will do the zoo and kelly tarltons but that will pretty much take the budget.
Have you heard of any free things to do in akl over the hols for the kids. I think the maritime museum has something for free and we are akl ratepayers too so we can use that.
Any other suggestions.

If you do go to Kelly Tarlton's ring first. I read on another site that someone wanted to take his 2 sons there yesterday and called first and apparently they are renovating, but still open and charging full price. The conveyor isn't working you can't look at the sharks and there was a number of other things that he couldn't do as well.

Westfield malls are having a few shows .
Bob the builder, fireman sam, angelina ballerina, and Mr bump. All at different malls on different days, not together!
Go to westfield.co.nz . Has dates and which mall they are at.
Hope that helps!

If you are at the zoo, Western Springs is worth a look/walk round. There are always heaps of families there and kiddies on skates/bikes etc.
Ambury Park - not sure if it is free?

Yes it is free...has some animals & lots of different walks. Toilets, drinking water, BBQ. Great place to run kids around, I think they are doing milking at the moment & they had lots of little piglets & were feeding baby lambs with bottles when we were there a couple of weeks ago...so cute

Good idea but I will have DD13 with me as well as the little ones. Anywhere with a glassons and supre will not be free lol.
Also doesn't have to be free could be just cheap.
Thanks I will check on the kelly tarltons thing as that is really pricey and if I am not getting the full bang for my buck then I will pass on it.

and ambury park has their fun day this holidays too - cant remember what day though.
and yes kelly tarltons are renovating at the moment. half the underground tunnels are shut and the moving path is not working but you can see sharks still and the sting rays and penguins ... but not worth what you pay for it.
the museum is free and they have that great interactive kids section.
Libraries always run free stuff for the kids, activites and such.
Pools.
Theres the gardens.
go to devonport on the ferry and have lunch on the beach...

We took the kids to the Domain this morning did not make it to the Museum as DS3 was sick...but we often take them to the gardens & duck pond & there are a few walk to go on ....."An adventure"
There is also One tree hill, has a great play ground for kids & a nice walk around.
Climb up Mt Eden have a walk around.
Butterfly Creek, have not been there for ages but would prefer that over KT while they are doing it up.
Motat, not free but great in the school hols. Picnic at Western Springs.
Sky Tower, not sure how much.
Mission Bay, nice walk around the beach.
I second Devonport on the ferry . Nice playground there. Down town walking around the harbour.
We were thinking about this 1yr AK pass looks like fun

We went to Kelly Tarlton's the other day and were disappointed that half of it was closed off but we got cheap tickets from that one day sale site so at least that was something.
