I want a sewing machine to make Kylah a quilt, its going to be for her first bed with photos and personalized stuff from when she was a baby.. Also would like to make inserts for her nappies..

Do you think this would be ok. Its very affordable and says it does overlock too?

It looks ok but the thing I would be a bit dubious about would be the overlocking facility. Overlockers have 3 or 4 lots of thread going at once and need 2 needles plus 2 loopers. I can't see from that photo how it could possibly overlock.

Some sewing machines have an overlock stitch which is similar.

Personally, there is no way in hell I would buy one of those cheap knock-off machines.

If you want my opinion (feel free to ignore me ) I would buy an older second hand model from a reputable brand. Singer, bernina, elna are some decent ones.

I have a shiiiiiite Brother machine and while it was cheap, and does the job, I'd have rather spent my money on a simple reliable machine.

So there's my two cents worth

I agree with Nikki I wouldn't buy it and stick to the popular brands like Janome or Bernina. Dh brought me Janome about 2 years for $2000 it is all computerised it does normal sewing as well as quilting and has got a huge table for when sewing big pieces of fabric. Here is the pic of the one I have got

Here is the link http://www.janome.com.au/

Definitely look on trademe... heaps come up for really cheap and I'd just take it to get serviced (around $50) and it'll be as good as new (providing it ain't broken!)
