It does depend a lot on how much pumping you need to do. For DS I had a Medela Harmony (manual pump) which was brilliant and didn't give you handcramp! If you need to do more pumping (I was pumping once a day) then an electric pump might suit you better.

I haven't used one myself, but Ive heard really good things about Unimom ones (sold by http://expressthebest.co.nz
The lady who runs the Express the Best shop seems really nice so might be able to offer some advice as to what would be best for you?

I've used 3 different pumps due to exclusively pumping for 4 months for my previously tongue tied daughter (thank goodness we've got that sussed now)
I started out with a Phillips AVENT manual, I could pump 150ml from each side (300ml total) in a 10 minute pumping session, which was great, but I could only pump one side at a time so I borrowed a friend's Medela Mini Electric Plus (double pump) and it was useless....I could barely get 50ml from both sides in 20 minutes!
I then read some reviews raving about the Unimom so invested in the Unimom Forte which is the single electric (they were out of stock of the double) but purchased a separate doubles kit to make it a double. It was good, better than the Medela and WAY cheaper, however I found the manual was still the best in terms of the volume I could express. I also loved that I could take the manual anywhere with me.....it was a bit hard on the hand but I did get used to it. My recommendation would be to try some pumps out if you have friends/family you could borrow them from, just to see how your breasts respond to each pump as I've been told it's a bit unusual to get such a high output from a manual pump and barely anything from an electric. I guess everyone's bodies are different!

Also, it is totally possible to use a manual pump regularly and long term as I did it for 4 months straight and didn't lose my supply or anything....really the only downside is the hand cramps, but that does subside once your muscles get used to it.
