Sorry I really don't have anywhere else to put this and so I am telling ya'll    (I am a member but had to change name as RL people are on here too). Well a while back we went away with some family for a few days and it was just a big upset for me and I am wanting some advice and to get it all out as I am kinda nervous about what happens next. We were away for a week with my PIL's, us and their other adult kid and his family (wife and toddler) the whole time my baby was totally overlooked by the grandparents as they were all over the other g-child as the parents were sitting on the butts not paying any mind to what was going on seriously they both just sat there and didn't even get up if toddler was crying or anything they just expected someone else to do it or (I think anyway) they just ignored it cos they were both to caught up in their own little world. The poor grandparents were both absolutely exhausted and so didn't really get to enjoy the time away. Neither of them will stand up to the parents as they are worried that they won't get to see the g-child as they have already had a fit at the parents once and wouldn't talk to them. They are the most selfish people I have ever met and I just can't understand why they pay their poor little one no attention unless it's needed. Don't get me wrong he/she is loved and provided with all that she needs   . Now onto the part that is concerning me now the il's are moving closer and I don't wanna feel all nervous when we are all together and then upset as my kids get no attention from the grandparents. I know that we prob won't go there a lot when the others are there as we will just avoid the whole thing as DH is pretty upset by the whole situation (there is more to this than I am saying) but I just wanted somewhere to put all this out of just being in my head and some advice as to how I deal with the situation. We all get on well and see each other all the time and so I know that what they were like on holiday wasn't just a one off and I guess now it's in my head more often for some reason or other. Sorry I know this sounds a bit over the place I'm a little scattered at the mo. Thanks for 'listening'

Thats so sad. The grandparent-grandchild relationship is so special, its just not fair that your children misses out because of the other child's parents. Perhaps you could invite gparents over to yours without the DP's brother's family. Maybe have a weekly or fortnightly gparent date?

I agree with Saffron, I'd get the IL's over without DP's siblings family.

I can sooooo relate to your situation right now!!!!! my PIL are always having to put SILs kids before mine because SIL is useless!!! shel just sit on her butt while her children are in the bathroom smearing toothpaste and handcream everywhere!!!

PIL had bought a highchair, sippycups nappies etc for their house when the grandkids come over and the highchair and cups were aimed at my boy because he is only 21 months whereas her youngest is almost 3!!!...YET SIL has taken the highchair back to her house and all of the sippycups!! so i bought 1 and clearly stated that it was there for Astin...well we have been there for 2 faimly BBQs recently and her child has the cup while we are left to struggle with Astin having an adultcup!!! sounds silly i guess but it all starts to grate!!!

Sorry about the ME post!

I would suggest some PIL time without the rest of the family. We have been inviting PIL over every sunday so they can see my boys by themselves!

All I am thankful for is that all of my IL's live a long way away
