Mmmm feijoas!

My little wee tree has just finished giving me her whole 1 bucket for this year. We transplanted her last year so I was very proud of her effort!

My old house had a monster tree, we used to husk a whole heap and then just freeze them in bags so we could use them in fruit pies, crumbles, muffins etc during the off season. We also used to just pop them outside our gate in a box for kids to grab on their way to the school across the road.

If you end up with mountains of them Sarah and no-one else wants anymore, I would happily drive across the Tron to get some from you

Your welcome. Mrs B.

I've still got some. I went out after I filled the bucket this morning to gather more so it's pretty much still full.

I'd gladly provide granny smiths to go with your feijoas if you lived a bit closer! Thankfully my MIL has a feijoa tree and even gave us some the other day, pre-stewed!!

Yum, stewed feijoas are soooo good!  The scarcity and tiny size of feijoas grown in the South Island is the one thing that  makes me wish I was back living in the North Island at this time of year . They cost $9.99/kg  in the supermarket here this week ...but we get ours freighted down overnight from Karamea for $5/kg (30 or so people at work put in a joint weekly order for them).  You north islanders should go into business shipping your excess down this-a-way
