and not in a good way either! I desperately need a vnew vaccum cleaner. Had a National from Nana (and was nearly the same age as her I swear) and it went okay, BUT you had to empty it after every vacuum or it wouldn't suck properly. My FIL had huge problems with remembering to do this so one day announced he would get up a new vacuum. Came back with a $50 one from Briscoes ("But it was down from $99"). Piece of crap. It falls apart constantly, needs emptying nealry as much as the other one, and the suction is dubious at best (is a sanyo if anyone wants to know what NOT to get), so we are in the market for a new one. Don't want to spend too much, maybe $350...but need somethint that won't make me swear at it and has a longer cord than 2 metres (i have an extension i use with it). any suggestions?

I am a Regional Manager for a very well known vacuum brand!

PM me if I can help you out with some things to look for in a great vacuum. I know alot about the industry and what to avoid (I have recommendations for other brands too, not just the brand I represent)!!!

this will be out of the budget but....
i have a dyson. one of the silver and purple ones and i love it too bits!! it has a long cord- i can do vacuum the whole house with out switching plugs(sure we only have carpet in the lounge and hallway), and it has great suction. the only issue is the u cant suck up really big things as it gets blocked but i go around with the thingy off so its just the pipe and i get the big bits of stuff, then put the thingy back on and away i go.and i love the telescopic handle so its just the right height. i just love it to bits and it was worth what we paid for it. we have had it for a couple of years now and we had a kirby demo and i trailed the kirby for a couple of days but i found the kirby to big and bukly for me to manovour around.
sorry for the long post but i love me vacumm.

I love love love my dyson. And there are a few on tm at the moment second hand starting at $3.50 lol or brand new at $499.   The one for 3.50 has a broken pipe but those are replaceable. Also if the suction isnt as good what ive noticed with mine is that i just have to chuck the filters in the washing machine and its all good again

We have a moulinex that we brought from bond and bond 8 years ago and it has been fantastic. From memory we paid around $300. I really want a dyson one though and am ever hopeful this one will die as Dh has said no new one until the old one croaks. I have a feeling though that it still has a fair few years left yet! Good luck

Go the dyson!!!! cannot recommend it enough!!! Doesn't loose suction and you will be really surprised a what you get out of your carpet that you thought was clean...

When we moved into our new house, i whipped out the dyson and got 5 (!!!!)loads of dust etc out of the carpet (4bdrm house with large lounge..)

have vaccuumed the matresses as well (ewwwww.....)

Best thing... layby one or save up if you can, they are awsome!

I have a dyson and I can second the comment about not realising how clean (or unclean) your carpet is. It is seriuosly scary the amount it sucks up. But it is a bit hard on the bigger things.
