Does anyone know someone who works for customs?

We're looking for a backup plan if DH doesnt get into the police and I'd like to speak to someone who works there

My DH wanted to do it, but the one thing that's put him off is the time you have to spend in the airports etc doing baggage checks etc etc. There's no guarantee you won't be stuck in that job for 5-10 years if the better positions don't come up.

DH wanted to go into the boarding parties specifically, but you have to start with the basics and that didn't appeal to him. So he's staying in the army which suits me just fine (better perks!)

The pay is pretty good though. Shift work is the thing that gets me - I couldn't handle a DH that did shift work, I'd rather him home or gone, and definitely not nocturnal

As your DH wants to join the police, I would think customs would be a good second option. I guess he would really just have to research how much time it takes to get where he wants to be in customs as there are so many different departments and roles as a customs officer.

Right now we're praying he gets into the police, but if he doesnt then he needs to find something else fast.

All his experience has been in the police and security industries so far.

My BIL worked there for years, starting off as a customs office, moving into investigations then into Management. He is now a diplomat living in Belgium so there is certainly opportunity to move.

The investigation team is probably as close to police/detective work as you could get. Perhaps ring their Human Resources department and ask them how you would get into the Investigations team. They might be able to send you a job description which usually outlines the skills and knowledge needed to do the job. They can also tell you how to get in as a customs officer if that is what he wants to do.

I used to be in contact with their past HR Manager but he's moved on and I don't know anyone still there.
