Don't give in? hehehe
Right, real advice. Make sure he has had a decent feed before bed and then if he wakes during the night, offer water instead. He'll soon learn that he won't get milk by screaming!
It will be super hard for the first 3 days, but as a general rule, they seem to fall into line after that.
 Good luck! Be strong!

thanks nikki, i'll give it a try tonight. i've also started giving him a feed about 1/2 an hour before putting him down for his day sleeps to try and break the sleep/feed association. it worked ok actually, he screamed this morning for about 1 minute and then went to sleep, we'll see how long he sleeps for.

Another thing you could try - I did this with an 8mo so slightly different - is give him a quick cuddle, don't say a word, then tuck him back in and go out. Keep it quick and he'll be bored of that in no time.
I'm having success with my Hannah. She comes into my room asking for help to find her doll and I've had to be really firm and say "Hannah, I'm too tired to get up. You'll need to go back to bed and we'll find her in the morning." Oh it's so tough but she's old enough. Anyway, it's happened a lot less in the last two weeks - I think only 4 occasions? - and every single time she has ended up finding her doll when she went back. Yay for that!

You know what.. that has encouraged me too!
I'm gonna start making Hannah walk herself back to bed.

yay! mikey went down for his afternoon nap without a feed first and only cried for about a minute again. this i can handle!
now we just have to see how it goes when he wakes up in the middle of the night and i don't feed him, i have a feeling there's going to be some major hissy fits. (maybe not just from him )

yay for hannah. lol, every time i try mikey with the straw he won't even let me put it in his mouth, he just starts running away (yes running everyone, my baby can walk now!!).
the only way he'll take any liquid is from his feeds or every now and again from his sippy cup. stubborn wee fella.

Admittedly, the straw she used was on of those disgusting flavoured milk straws - got one free in my toddler pack from www.reachme.co.nz - I drank most of it (and nearly died from sugar overload) and then she used it after that, so could still taste the strawberry(/sugar).
But now I know that she doesn't have a problem with the consistency of milk through a straw (she used to gag at it) there is no getting out of it!

Have a pre-Christmas party at your house Nikki and everyone has to drink with straws It'll be fun so she'll join in!
