My 11 month old has been exclusively breastfed since birth and other than some initial cracked nipples etc it has been going great. But the last 2 months he's been making me sore on one side only. I saw an LC a few weeks ago who helped me latch him better and that seemed to help a bit but now it's worse than ever and there's some horrible damage

He also has a tongue tie which she didn't think was an issue. It looks tight but he can stick his tongue out to imitate me

I guess I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice. I BF my daughter until she was 18 months and want to do that for him too so I'm not ready to give it up. I've tried Purelan and some anti-bacterial cream that the LC recommended but not much improvement.

Have you tried BF in a different position? I found that when DD got her first lot of teeth it was quite sore, but now my breasts are used to it it doesnt hurt where they rub. Also lots of fresh air and lansinoh cream works well. If it gets too bad you can feed off one side only, your body just adjusts to it and will produce from one side. Good luck

it could be teeth related. mine got sore again when the kids got more teeth, it was almost like they had to learn to latch again properly.

Have you taken a pregnancy test lately? That was what prompted me to do one... and what do you know... BFP!

I second the teeth comment, although that seemed to last only about a week for each new tooth.

I'd experiment with feeding positions on that side like Aethalia suggested, perhaps even go a few days without feeding that side and see if it heals and bub *forgets* the bad latch?

Thanks ladies! I hadn't thought of trying a different position so will give it a go. Will be kind of funny for thim I'm sure and he's a great big lump too. Isn't it funny how the things you would try with a newborn just get forgotten with an older baby! I have been thinking about just going to one side but it's the more productive side that's giving me grief so I'll keep going at the mo. I've expressed a couple of feeds today to give it a rest. How many feeds were/do other peoples babies have at this age? Yes it has definitely been since he got more teeth as he now has 7.

Aethalia - I love your signature. Isn't it funny how all those things just seem to go together? I'd love to say I'm addicted to MCNs too but mine are more like OFNs (old fashioned nappies) but they work great for me.

T Rex - OMG terrifying thought!! (For me that is - congrats to you!)

Yeah I was actually just going to add to it, a friend and I were talking today and realised we are rather crunchy..... LOL shall update it soon!

DD still fed lots per day at that age and 3 times a night, try popping into the extended BF thread and asking there as well.
