Topic: seeing a specialist Posted: 18 March 2013 at 2:38pm |
Hi guys, for those of you that have seen a specialist, what kinds of things did they do (tests etc). I saw one today - going private-, had a smear/internal exam and heaps of bloods. Is there anything else she might do? I forgot to ask. She did say to wait until results come back but to not try ttc for another 6 months at least (which TOTALLY sucks when we so badly want a baby)

Firstly sorry for your loss. Did she give you reasons to not try? I was going through FA when I had my 2nd M/C but they gave me the go ahead to try again straight after - unfortunately it was quite a while before we fell pregnant again. Often the 6 months is for your emotional wellbeing moreso than your physical wellbeing. Hope your tests come up with some answers - trust me the worst thing is falling into the unexplained category!

Thanks for your reply monkeys. Specialist said because the miscarriages have been one after the other after having 2 successful preg's, she thinks we should try find out why they are happening first to try prevent another one. Im going to take the next 6 months to lose weight, get fig and try look after myself so hopefully if we can get preg again it will turn out better. Congrats on your pregnancy too!! Fingers tightly crossed for a sticky, happy, healthy 9 months

Hi LG
Sorry for your loss. I have been trying for #2 for awhile and have had so many tests done I hope I remember them all! First step was blood tests and heaps of them. DH and I both had a chromosone check which they do via a blood test. I had a procedure where dye is pumped through my tubes and my uterus is scaned. Further down the track I also had a hysteroscopy done which looked again at my uterus and cervix and a biopsy done to check out the level of New Killer cells in my uterus - sometimes a raised level of these can cause m/c. I got the all clear on everything so no answers to why I had 4 recurrent m/c. Now after 7 IVF cycles I think its my age and egg quality that is the issue.
I was always told we could try again as soon as we emotionally felt ready although a specific "reason" for the m/c had been ruled out with all the tests I had had done.
Its a frustrating situation to be in, you know with two children already that you can do it which is a positive sign. Getting fit and having a positive mindset is a going to be good for you no matter when you start trying again.
I wish you all the best.
