just wondering if any one has had an ectopic and had the methotrexate injection. Did you have any side affects?

I was in hospital for 3 days due to an ectopic. I didn't even know i was pregnant was getting regular periods and had sudden pain and lots of bleeding. I was 5 weeks preg .

feeling really sad and in disbelief, why did this happen??? .

i know i was one of the "lucky" ones as the doctor said that it was picked up before the tube reptured but i don't feel that "Lucky".

I had one about 2 years ago, was about 5 weeks like you. I had the injection and from what I remember I did feel quite ill and dizzy. Though I did have a dnc too as my hcg levels were up and down. So it could of been from being put under for the dnc.

Sorry your in this sucky situation

I did. I had no side effects at the time. However.. I wish I had got my tube taken out.. for all I know that tube could be completely blocked and therefore if I get pregnant using that tube its a higher risk for another ectopic.. though I didn't think like this at the time.

But that drug depletes your folic acid supply. I don't know if that drug was the cause for this or not but I do find the timing rather fitting.. I was told to wait 6 months after before I tried again.. I did.. I got pregnant straight away at the 6 month mark.. had a natural miscarriage.. that was fine.. got pregnant the following month and our baby we found out had severe spina bifida at the 20w scan.. so severe that we had a medical termination. Our research after found that methotrixate messes with folic acid and folic acid helps prevent spina bifida.. so yeah I dunno. It may have been the cause, it may not.

Either way I wish I had had my tube taken out instead of the drug. the drug just seemed like the easy way out of the situation at the time.

thanks for your reply. I was told to only wait 3 months after having the injection of methotrixate. we will be waiting much longer though. thanks agian for your reply i found the doctors didn't really go into the effect of side effects much.

I had to have the tube out on thursday as it ruptured. I was feeling fine up until thursday morning then severve pain luckly i went into the hospital right away . I was very lucky to be in the emergency department when it ruptured. The doctors and nurses at middlemore are amazing. so now i have one tube and two ovaries bizarre how they leave an ovary hanging there!

Kebakat i also think they give the injection as an esay way out if they had just removed the tube last week. I wouldn't have gone through all this extra distress and pain. Oh well at least i can move on . thanks again.
