So I was wondering. Since I have stopped bleeding from m/c a fortnight ago should my hcg levels be back to normal? My doctor said that it isn't normal practice to test blood when someone miscarries right down to the hcg level goes back to normal but after reading all these stories about retained product it has me worried. I only had the initial blood test that told me my levels had dropped from 2 and a half thou down to 600.

Not a silly question at all

After my D&C I had a follow up with my GP 2 weeks later and they did a blood test to check HCG. It showed I still had HCG so they wanted me to do another test a few weeks later. Then I had another one about a month after that which showed it was at zero. It got the impression from the nurses who looked after me when I had D&C and my own GP that it is standard to have follow up BT's to check HCG.

If I was you I would perhaps ask your GP to do the test even if it's just for peace of mind.

Do you reckon I could just do a HPT and if it comes up positive ring the doc? Cause that would mean my levels hadn't dropped.

That's a good idea doing a HPT. If your HCG is above 5 it will be picked up by a HPT.

Yeah I just don't want a blood test if I can avoid it lol. I've been starting everyday so nauseas its horrible. I can hardly get out of bed which isn't great with a one year old. It only lasts a couple of hours thankfully. Did anyone else get this after miscarrying? It's only happened the past couple of days and I stopped bleeding over a fortnight ago so was wondering whether this could be miscarriage related or if lucky me has caught some virus.

Well my nausea stopped straight away after the D&C. So either it is residual pregnancy hormones or a bug you've caught causing the nausea. Sounds like it is pg related though as you said it only lasts a few hours each day. Man I hope it stops soon as that's really sucky still have ms after a mc.

bit late to this thread, but I'm not sure that all of NZ follows one particular protocol on this.
Last mc, no beta follow ups at all. I had a scan 3 days after misoprostol treatment which showed a small retained clot that the doctor reckoned would pass naturally (I never noticed anything pass)
This mc, protocol has changed. The effectiveness of treatment seems to be monitored by blood tests to check a drop of 80% in hCG has occurred.
I also hassled my GP because we want to ttc a lot quicker than I did last time, and I want to know that hcg is reduced enough for us to start.

To be honest 2500 to 600 is ok I think. is that about 75%?
My levels were 7500ish and I asked if 500 would still be too high, but was told 500 would be fine (but they were 2500ish 3 days later)

I know last year it took about 3 weeks for my boobs to stop hurting after the miso . . . my body aint too responsive on recognising this stuff aint happening anyway. Didn't have ms with either preg.
Its pretty hard if you are have ms, how harsh? I've heard about this happening with other people though, although 2 weeks after, for it to start up again, sounds a bit odd?

I'm feeling so sick it's actually waking me up. Half 6 this morning I woke up suddenly feeling so nauseas you would think I spent my night on a boat. By half 8 it had almost completely disappeared and by 10 it was gone. Same deal yesterday morning. We want to start TTC again too but am not sure when to expect AF. Someone said to treat mc like normal AF and work it out from there (if that's true then AF should have been here two days ago) and someone else said to wait 20 days after mc for AF (which means 5 days away at the most since I can't actually remember what day bleeding up'd and left) so it's all a bit confusing.

I understand af can be anything from 4-8 weeks after mc, 1st cycle doesn't always follow your previous norms as hormones can take a while to settle.

Do you have any different discharge to usual? Noticing any odours? Feverish? Emotionally, where are you at?
Don't know what else to suggest apart from seeing the doc? Hopefully its a bug . . .

Nothing unusual at all. I've taken my temp the past couple of days because of the nausea but it's perfectly normal. Emotionally I'm the same. I have a bit of a short fuse but that's just normal lol. I may ring the docs tomorrow if I wake up sick again.

I was also told to treat mc like an AF. My cycle has always being a very regular 29 or 30 days. First AF came 40 something days after D&C but then my AF's after that back to normal cycle length. Don't stress if your AF is late as it's pretty normal for the first one to take it's time as some much is going with hormones it can take awhile for things to settle down.

I think if you are still feeling sick over the next few days then see you GP as that's really not fair being sick after mc.
