Topic: Question for Wellingtonians - rubbish Posted: 15 November 2010 at 7:20pm |
How many of you use one of those wheelie bins for rubbish collection? What company do you use? How much do you pay?
I think we'll make more than a city council bagful these days (even though we recycle everything we can!) so wondering if this would be a more economical option.
TIA!

We use Alz Litta Bins. Im in the Hutt Valley so not sure if they are in Town.
We pay $260 a year for 240L and i think its $190 for the smaller one. Or its similar pricing anyway.
We use to have the smaller bin and its about the same as 2 1/2 rubbish bags. We have a wheelie bin because we need to put lawn clippings etc in there too.
But the main reason is the quality of the rubbish bags, i wasnt going to keep paying $2.80 for a bag that would rip because its so thin.

Thanks _SMS_.
The rubbish bag quality annoys me too and good point about the lawn clippings and garden waste - we use another bag a fortnight getting rid of that (it costs a huge $8 to take it to the garden waste facility at the tip!).

Where abouts in WGTN are you? Next year they are introducing Weelie bins (maybe 2-3) so one for bottles, one for paper, one for other stuff (like in Chch); we got a letter about it, saying it would be introduced in March but because we have a steep drive down to our house they weren't sure if we'd be keen and if we'd like to keep using bags.

Yeah, we're in Tawa and we're getting a bin in March. But it's just one bin for all recycling except glass (which we will still use the little green bin for).
We already recycle everything we can but we're going through more than a bag a week. It's quite disgusting how much rubbish we end up with.

When i wanted a wheelie bin, i would right all the numbers off them on rubbish day. My street had 5 different companies. I just rang them all and compared prices.

Kiwilaurie check out Gordie's bins. They have a website and definitely cover Tawa. I had one for about three months and it was great. I can't remember the cost though I'm afraid.

Price Linky
We used Gordies when living in Churton Park. They were great.
We're with Daily Waste now as Gordies don't do the southern suburbs

Thanks happymumma - the fortnightly collection with Gordies is a bit cheaper than other places I have found.
We have a really large lawn which we need to mow fortnightly, so this seems like a good option for us.
Thanks for all your help!
