I am planning on making my own pocket nappies... I don't have much sewing experience so we will see how it goes! My material and bits and pieces arrived from Greenbeans yesterday, and I have found a pattern off TheNappyNetwork for a pocket nappy (can anyone tell me if the pattern is any good?)

My question is: Some nappies are sewn around the leg elastic, and some aren't... is one way better than the other, more leakproof etc.? I hope you can understand what I'm talking about...
Chloe (4 years) and Oliver (3 years).

I think that's called a "gusset" and is for extra leak protection...? I have heard others say they just leave it and call that "roll out fleece" and claim that the extra sewing sometimes leaves holes for moisture to wick through.

Soooo what I'm saying is, it isn't necessary - the naps work fine without it.

My mum has used the pattern to make 8 nappies for me and they are all good (but they are a bit too big for Josh but thats how we wanted them to be). Some of mine have the legs bits sewen done and some don't. So long as the fleece is inside the PUL they'll be fine.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!
