Topic: Whats with taking his clothes? Posted: 09 July 2007 at 9:17pm |
Whats with taking his clothes OFF??? Sorry that's what I meant to ask.
My 2 and a bit year old son has just started taking his clothes off - constantly! He started yesterday by taking his pants and nappy off and playing with his penis. He was obviously embarrassed as he insisted on being in the corner behind the dining table. I however was really disturbed by his actions as he was clearly enjoying what he was doing - his little penis was erect!!! Now I know that it is normal to explore but do they normally get a little stiffy? Each time I asked him what he was doing he told me to stop - with the hand up to exagerate the "stop" and then I got a "go away"
He apparently removed his nappy at sleep time at day care today. Also last night and tonight at bed time we have had to redress him from head to toe at least 3 times. I even put his zip up sleep suit on back the front and the litle "hudini" got it off!
What can I do to keep his clothes on and why ohh why do I have a stripper on my hands?????

I am not too sure about what to do with taking the clothes off, but can help with the "fun" thing.
Our boy likes to "rub" down there, often with his hands down his pants and yes he does get stiff. We have a rule that if he wants to do that, it can only be done in his bedroom, with the door closed. My theory is that if he has a place that is ok to do this, it will decrease the likelihood of him doing it somewhere else. If I catch him doing that in the lounge, he gets sent to his room to stare at the wall for 4 mins. If I catch him again in the same day, he looses his favourite toy for the rest of the day. It does take a bit of persitance for him to get the idea, but we have had no rubbing issues in other rooms for ages...Perhaps that may work for you...
If he insists on getting nude, then perhaps, again, that can only be done in his bedroom.

He will grow out of it well at least until the hormones kick in. Both my boys used to do that and stopped around the 4-5year mark. Well at least stopped making it obvious. According to DH it's something you never get tired off!! TMI
As far as taking the clothes off I definitely can't help there Abby strips every time we get in the door (it's a hourly battle to get her to keep her knickers on) and if we put her in P.J's they are off in bed before she goes to sleep. Both our boys quite frequently strip to their boxers at home as well. And neither of them will wear P.J's either!
I have quite simply given up, keeping clothes on has been a 10 year battle for us and I sadly admit the little buggers won.
We do however make them get dressed if we have visitors or are going out.

as for the playing thing - jake is a fiddler too. i figure it's a free toy - i just let him do it, but we have a rule too that it's only inside the house.
stripping - well, if it's any consolation Jake does it too. i was letting him as he had chicken pox butt and he claimed the pants were irritating it, but now he'll just drop them. luckily not in public but I won't let him outside without pants on and that is usually motivation enough to get something on.

i remember that stripping stage well! back before cloth nappies jack was forever taking his nappy off and leaving puddles or poo on the floor he seems to be over that now, i think it lasted about 3-4mths, sorry
as for the fiddling, he still does that and probably always will, he's a male after all i just let him know it's for him to play with only and should do it in his room.

Thanks for the feedback ladies
With the fiddling thing, I figure I don't want to discourage him or make him feel at all like he is being naughty, I know it is a developmental - awareness stage. If you ask DH he is as proud as punch of "his boy" and I should just let him get on with it......
I was asking the day care ladies this arvo and they seem to think that is his way of letting me know he is ready for toilet training. That seems feesable as he is certainly at the age, and obviously he is curious as to what is down there and what it all gets up to (so to speak.
