Ok, so those with kids around 4yrs old. or, well, any age i spose, know that there comes a time when the kids start taking a FEW more risks, doing dodgy things they shouldn't be doing.   I spose In short my question is, how pedantic are you about when they hurt themselves?

2 weeks ago, I was at work and mike and the girls were at home, Paris KNOWS she isn't to climb up the slide, she's been told many times and regularly complains if anyone else at the park does it while she's waiting to go down, however, after having been told 3 times ina row by mike at home, she climbed, she slipped and went over the edge, head first onto our concrete pad below.    She went a bit groggy and sleepy straight after, he rung me and i told him to go straight to docs. Basically they checked her and sent her home with isntructions to wake her every 2 hours and check that she was responsive.

Last week, I get home from work in the afternoon again, go to check them before i go to bed to find one side of Paris's face swollen, this time she had been standing on the rung of our tall steel barstool, just balancing there, again, like she has been told not to do. This time she overbalanced, fell backwards and the barstool cam edown on top of her face, cutting around her nostril, her lip was fat and purple on the outside and all up inside her mouth, she had a shiner a cut above her eye and a day later we also found grazing from the carpet on the side of her head. That time she seemed fine (bit grumpy at mike for not ringing and telling me as he was asleep when i came home so i got a huge shock to walk in to see her) so we didn't take her to the docs, if she'd shown any untowards signs i would have had her down there like a shot, but mainly i think it was all just a bit of surface bruising and cuts.

Lastly, today, at daycare they have a swing bridge thin gon their playground, you know the ones, with bars either side.. she decided to use those bars to stand on and lean over, one minute she was up there, the next she had fallen, forehead first, hitting her head on a wodden box on the way down. they did the ice pack thing and we arrived to pick her up just after it happened. I just went in to check and the small red ($2 coin-ish sized) red mark in the middle near her hairline, is still there, but the front part below it has swollen pretty nasty and doesn't feel like hard swelling, just feels a bit stodgy really which worried me slightly. She has been fine all afternoon, and when we woke her she was fine too - a bit grumpy at being woken of course.

I think i know the answer to my own question here, but do you think, having had 3 pretty decent head injuries in the last 3 weeks close together - that it would be worth getting her checked over again. I hate seeming pedantic, and i know what to look for, but part of me just thinks i should take her.. the other part is saying don't be silly they'll just give you the same advice as last time.

Argh - see i told you i was pedantic.

wellll if you are in two minds it prob wouldnt hurt to get her checked anyway... thats a lot of damage in such a short space of time... anything for peace of mind i say...

when i was reading your post it reminded me of my nephew who had a serious head injury and he had to wear a helmet for over a year cause his head had been damaged so much... maybe you could threaten paris with a helmet ....

Jake and Taine have done some relatively nasty things to themselves and each other, but besides the toes, nothing seems to be a regular thing - Personally i would take Paris to the doctor again. who cares if you are being pedantic, i think you would worry too much if you didn't take her.

OT: saw you and Mike at the supermarlket today. tried to catch your eye and wave, but then got a customer - damn them!

Yup, better to be safe than sorry. Just explain why you are there (3 nasty head injuries in a short time) and you are concerned...

I think its worse when you know stuff as well Janine. I'm not much of a worrier but sometimes I go a bit crazy thinking about the possibilties IYKWIM. But in saying that, I would probably take her too - three times in a short space of time is quite a lot, there's no harm in taking her. Let us know how you get on.

Same here Janine,I think its worth a thorough check just for peace of mind.
The docs won't think you're being silly for worrying after 3 such big falls.

i would be taking her to the doctors and just making sure all is okay....sounds like you have an accident prone child, my brother was like that...i swear my mother turned grey overnight with his antics.

Oh and better to be a neurotic pendantic mother, than have a child who is hurt

I would be taking her in as well. And you could also be a bit cheeky at work and maybe ask one of the paeds when they came in and aren't too busy.

OT: Nigel saw you both at the supermarket as well.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

I'd go check it too and also see if her balance is fine. Probably normal though, I'd say lol

I agree too - take her, it can't hurt.

I know how you feel though my five year old has had several injuries in the las few days.

I think at age four they are getting adventurous, but their coordination and ability to judge is not very advanced.
