Alex is going to be 6 months in a few weeks' time and he'll need to go on to a follow on formula. Does it need to be the same one as the starter formula he's on? (currently the plain karicare one) Or can/should I move him on to a gold or gold + version?

We moved Rohan from Nurture Gold to the same follow on and if anything he likes the new one more!

If you want to you can. We kept our boys just on the plain ones and they are fine. When I get the formula packets thou I get the gold ones.
I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

I don't think that it matters what formula you switch him to. If you wanna switch to gold, then go for it.
