Topic: Chritmas day food Posted: 05 December 2010 at 8:01pm |
I'm wondering what everyone else is doing for Christmas day food. We'll be having brunch and then a bigger meal later on in the afternoon / early evening.
Any great ideas for brunch? I'm keen on easy but yummy (of course!) and there is no major pressure about what it is although I would like it to be special.

We do the same thing if we have Xmas with the inlaws...
For brunch, we have a big cooked breakfast with the works: Chorizo breakfast sausages, bacon, hash browns, baked beans, toast, eggs, onions etc. It's usually all cooked on the BBQ (so pretty easy, and very little prep) and enjoyed al fresco with a glass of bubbles and everyone just helps themselves.
Then there's nibbles and stuff around for most of the day (coz its all about overindulgence) and we have a late lunch/early dinner with turkey, ham, salads and whatever else everyone brings.
My parents also do a special breakfast, but not to the same scale. We usually start with some nice hot choc and marshmallows, and then have croissants with ham and cheese, crumpets, and sometimes strawberries or fruit of some description. It all happens a bit earlier though (like at normal breakfast time... used to be before we opened presents as kids) and it's more of a make-your-own sort of scenario. (And then a much more traditional lunch with the roast chicken/lamb/pork, peas, carrots etc and roast veges for Christmas dinner, and leftovers for tea).

I'm thinking along your parents line I think Kellyfer. I was thinking croissants and great coffee followed by berries and things. Our brunch will probably be earlyish - after opening DD's birthday presents and pre opening Christmas presents. Then on to the over indulging after that!!

We are having xmas at home so just the 5 of us.
I don't do to much for b'fast as the kids are not really hungry after eating the goodies in their xmas stockings, so will do some crumpets, fruit & a cereal that they don't usually get but want.
We have snacks of chips, crackers, breads, humas, dips, olives, cheeses & fruit so can just munch throughout the day.
Lunch is about 1pm & DH does a ham on the bone, chicken, salads, roasters, pav, ice cream & fruit.
We have ham forever & chicken & salads the next day /days.

My ILs are in the Sth Island so we will be at my parents all day.
Brunch is pancakes, bacon, eggs, toast. Dad does it all on the BBQ. It usually incls bubbles.
Then we have a meal mid-afternoon which is usually ham, turkey (or sometimes Chicken), roast veges, usually a salad or 2. Mum is also doing a roast lamb this year. Then I am doing trifle for dessert.
If we are hungry in between we just pick at whatever or have a sandwich

We're doing brunch too and I was thinking crossiants, bacon and eggs with bubbles and strawberries. Chorizo sausages sound like a nice idea and maybe hash browns. Maybe a little fruit platter with melon, strawberries and grapes?

We have a big brunch every year with the extended family. It is always croissants, Jam, strawberries & cream, bacon, eggs, tomato sauce & of course champagne ;) We just fill our own croissants with the fillings of our choice.
Christmas dinner is always a leg of ham and other roast vege & salad, finished with fruit salad and trifle for desert.

We are having a breakfast and currently I am planning on doing a fresh fruit salad with yoghurt or cream, pancakes, breakfast sausages and I'm not sure what else, however croissants sound like a great idea.
