I have been going hard for 4 weeks now. started walking, or swimming at least 4-5days to start, now ive kicked it up a notch and am walking, swimming, doing WII boxing, WII personal trainer (which does muscle group toning and cardio)

Im doing between 40-60mins of exercise 5 days a week now and i have not lost ANYTHING!!!

I am BFing, so im wondering if my body is going into shock and my metabolism has slowed right down to stop me from not having any fat stores for the breast milk.........if thats even possible

So has anyone else worked their tail off and got no where??? I have 10kgs to lose, which im not bothered about it happening immediately but just something for my hard work would be nice before i just give up altogether!!!

just to add i have changed a few things to my eating, nothing major cos i wasnt eating that bad to start with.

Im just finding it very disheartening cos its not like im sitting on my butt doing nothing and expecting my weight to drop.......but the funny thing was when i wasnt exercising my weight stayed the same as it has since i have started exercising so very hard to stay motivated when i know i could be this weight and not do anything

Are you taking your measurements aswell?. I know how disheartening it can be when you work your butt off and there is little or no reward....but it will come...Sometimes the scales may not move and I get a bit down but I can see changes in measurements can that lifts me back up.

Yup, if you go back through the weightloss thread I hit a period where I was going really hard and my eating was excellent and I didn't shift any weight. I ended up just swimming lots.. ie I was swimming between 6-9km a week depending on how many days I went and that helped get over that.

But yeah like eva said keep track of your measurements too.

I am doing measurements but I just did them a week ago so gonna wait another week to remeasure, but i would have to say i dont think i have noticed any changes in the way clothes fit me....my two pairs of pre preg pants that fit me snuggly are still snug........

I do plateau real easy when trying to lose weight but initially you expect to lose a little in the beginning before you plateau, not plateau straight away

Damn my stupidly slow metabolism.......wish there was a way to bump that up a few notches!!

Hey it sounds like you are doing great and maybe your body is trying to hold your fat stores for your BFing. Perhaps if you increased your food that you are eating a bit by adding some extra fruit or even a protein shake?
At least you will be getting very fit!

A load of it depends on what you are eating, how often you are eating, when you are eating and what exactly you are doing in terms of exercise ... those factors determine whether you are doing too much and your body is fighting to keep what you have because you need it, or whether you are eating too much without realising it.

To be on the safe side, I would work out your daily calorie requirements (including the extra calories you need to breastfeed) and then take it from there, you only want to decrease your calories by 500 at a maximum.

Hope that helps some

Thanks for that.
I need to do a food diary thats for sure. Im actually pretty bad at remembering to eat, but have been making myself eat a small banana on toast on two peices of vogels every morning......the middle of the day is a bit of hit and miss, but have been having a sandwich lately and then dinner......ive never been any good at snacking.

Got some digital scales that do fat, muscle and water %.......not that its gonna help me, but at least i will see a small loss as opposed to my other scales that i can only notice kg loses

One of the big things I was taught in regards to weight loss was to make sure you mix things up e.g don't eat the same breakfast and lunch everyday and to mix up your exercise so that you don't do the same exercise everyday.

I am not sure how true this is but it appears to be working for me.

I rotate my breakfasts so one day cornflakes, next toast and marmite etc.

Exercize is only 20%
what you eat is 80%

so you can be swimming...running...cycling till the cows come home... unless you reduce your calorie intake you wont lose the weight

Portion control... thats also important.
Eat a high protien diet.. that will help to fill you up without all the calories.. yoghurt, chicken, cottage cheese, fish...etc

I joined WW when DS was 6 weeks old and have lost 17kg in 21 weeks.
I know the weeks i really keep to my points and 'eat less' i have a good loss on the scales..

Oh yeah i am breastfeeding too..

You mentioned metabolism.... bigger people actually have a faster metabolism than thin people.. ways you can boost yours is...

a black coffee first thing in the morning
drinking very cold water through the day/night
chilly and spicy foods

Good Luck and Keep going !

I read an article saying that exercise does not necessary mean weight loss but does help tone while losing weight.

I agree it is all about what you eat, how much you eat & when you eat. I also think you should not beat yourself up over things you eat instead try & include them in your cal intake.

Find out your cal limit then plan your meals & make sure you don't deprive yourself, just limit things.

I drink heaps of cold water & have stopped weighing myself every 5 mins.

I think when I stopped stressing about losing weight I started to, lol.

breastfeeding doesnt mean the weight will 'drop off' as promised..haha
i am in the same boat. but because i am still BF my body is just holding onto that extra stores ( which makes sense )

cardio, cardio and definetly muscle work as the more muscle mass you have the more effectively your metabolic rate will be.

basic rule.....output MUST excede input!!!
good luck

mum to mr 16 & mr 10
