Topic: Chiropractor vs Osteopath for newborn Posted: 22 March 2010 at 6:48pm |
Hi
I hear a lot of people take there baby to see an Osteopath and get great results from this.
I see a Chiropractor and she is keen to see baby too.
Sheldon has no problems (so far) ie colic/poor feeding which I know is a reason that many people see the Osteopath.
What I was wondering is, have any of you lovely ladies taken your baby to a Chiropractor? And if so, did you feel it made a difference if there was a problem?
I guess I'm trying to figure out if its worth taking him to the Chiropractor. Or if I'm going to take him anywhere, should it be an Osteopath.
Thanks in advance.
(sorry if this doesn't flow well, sleep deprived mother excuse)

If there is no problem with him then why does you Chiro want to see him?
Personally I wouldn't take him to a Chiro but would see an Osteo as they have do cranial work which is easier on them. My thoughts are based on taking my boys to an osteo but also because I don't like Chiro's as the one I was seeing for months and months did nothing for my problem yet an osteo fixed it in 2 appts

I'd definately go Osteo over Chiro and I'd go to the Osteo with buuba even if there was "nothing wrong". It's always good for them to get checked out and stuff and you may be surprised with what the Osteo finds.

I took my son to an Osteopath as he had a rough delivery (long labour ending in emerg c-section) and had a clicky jaw when he fed. Coincidence or not the next feed after we saw her it was gone. I took him a few more times after that as he was very clicky in his upper back and shoulders. I wasn't keen to take him to a Chiro as have seen them myself in the past and prefer the Osteo's more gentle approach.

Thats kinda my thinking. I like the Chiro 'cracking' my back. But am unsure about it for a newborn. I will have to investigate it further.
Has anyone taken there newborn to a Chiro?

I plan on taking my baby to my chiro once they are born. I will go for a check up to make sure everything is in place and my chiro will do the same for baby.
I guess I don't think of my chiro in terms of just 'back' and more of my nervous system. I go mainly for problems with my migraines and also IBS and throughout my pregnancy she has adjusted things such as my round ligaments and diaphram. I haven't seen an osteopath before, but did try cranial massage which I would try with my baby too if neccessary.

Ive been taking Kyra to a chiro since she was a week old and i find them brilliant. They are very gentle and don't crack bones etc, they just have this device they hold against them and click to correct them - cant even feel it. Kyra tends to sleep through it. He checks every joint in her body and does a crazy voodoo type thing to figure out where her problem areas are. Its really fascinating.

My eldest has been checked by my Chiro since she was just 5 weeks old and despite being a prem baby has never had any health issues. Getting them checked as early as possible from birth is more of a preventative measure and making sure their nervous system is in top working order, rather than waiting until there is a problem. I've started getting my new baby girl checked too. They don't crack the babies backs like us adults. They just use their fingers to gently apply pressure and " feel" for any problem spots, and like Ricker said, they use they little device on the lowest setting to do the adjusting. Usually the babies are so relaxed during this they just sleep right through it.
